Innovative Detection Concepts (iDC) started its journey in 2014, thanks to the joint efforts of two professors from Florida International University and a partnership with the Florida Department Of Agriculture and Community Affairs. Their novel approach involves certified scent dogs trained to detect fungal infections in avocado or laurel trees-a crucial tactic since Florida first saw these infestations in 2006. To ensure accuracy, iDC employs a secondary dog to confirm initial findings before suggesting fungicide treatments, thereby protecting vulnerable crops.
