Maria Hernandez has led innovation and global strategies across a broad spectrum of industries, including the notable Fortune 500 company, IBM, where she served as Chief Innovation Officer and member of IBM’s Corporate Strategy team, driving business development and innovation with IBM’s largest Strategic Outsourcing clients in Latin America. A visionary leader, Maria stood out early in her career at IBM as an evangelist for women in the workplace, creating mentoring programs and molding a culture to support women in technology within IBM. state to be part of the StartupAmerica national initiative, which brings together the private sector, incubators, investors, and other organizations to support entrepreneurs who leverage technology to drive innovation. Maria was instrumental in launching the first SmartCamp Kickstart event for Healthcare aimed at identifying early stage entrepreneurs developing business ventures that align with IBM’s Smarter Healthcare vision. Her knowledge and visibility within the entrepreneurial space led to her being selected for IBM’s SmarterCities Challenge in Malaga, Spain where she spent three weeks working with the city government and other key stakeholders understanding their entrepreneurial capabilities and recommending best practices and ideas to drive economic development and job growth. Following her career at IBM, Maria joined Modernizing Medicine as Senior VP Strategic Development. In this role, she was responsible for leading strategic partnerships and alliances in healthcare technology. Almost immediately, Maria formed Modernizing Medicine’s Women in Technology (MMWIT) mentoring program and led in the company’s MMWIT involvement in eMerge Americas Women, Innovation and Technology Summit. , a non-profit organization for Corporate Latina leaders across the US. She serves on the Advisory Boards of Latino Business Today online magazine, IT Women, and St. Thomas University. Maria has received recognition for being a female role model and is a frequent speaker at women’s conferences and university events. Her history of developing mentoring and advocacy programs for women stems from her ability to inspire at all levels and form partnerships to create large-scale and enduring movements. Throughout Maria’s career, her roles have required solid communication and relationship-building skills combined with the capabilities to influence, engage and motivate in order to form enterprise business partnerships, mentoring networks and leadership programs. An enthusiast for the causes she champions, Maria is a visionary driver, bringing people and resources together.
