The company headquarters is located in New Castle, Delaware, USA, in a state-of-the-art green energy building which features 160 solar panels, geo-thermal heating and cooling, and LED lighting. At TMI we are proud of our long history of contributions to the testing instruments industry. In 1917, a broker based in New York City started importing paper roll goods from Europe under the name Foreign Paper Mills. From 1917 to 1931, US customers receiving paper goods from Foreign Paper Mills increasingly requested testing instruments to measure the properties such as thickness, tensile strength, moisture content and burst strength of paper specimens. During this period, while many new technologies for testing instrumentation were being developed in Europe, material testing of paper products in the US was in its infancy, with only a few paper measurements being performed to determine the quality of paper. Testing Machines, Inc. was incorporated in 1931 with the primary business of distributing laboratory testing instruments to a growing US paper industry.  Over the years, TMI continued to grow as a supplier of laboratory instrumentation to a broader range of industries, inclluding plastics, textiles, adhesives, rubber and metals.  During the past 20 years, TMI has evolved from a distributor to an engineering and manufacturing organization providing testing solutions worldwide.
