I have been working in the IT field for over twenty-five years helping home users, small and medium businesses with their computers and their networks. In the early 1980s, I was teaching English As a Second Language for a Buenos Aires (Argentina) company. One day, my classroom computer broke ten minutes before I had to begin teaching a class consisting of eight high level executives. I looked around and realized it was up to me to fix the computer. Not only did I manage to do it (with the help of a couple of friends on the phone), but I discovered computers fascinated me. A month later, I was fixing all the other teachers' computers. Six months later, I was taking care of the whole corporate network and I kept administrating and managing it for over fifteen years. The name I.T. By The Sea was born some years ago, at the end of a day-long brain storming session. In spite of all our work, we had been unable to agree on a name for the company. One of us suggested, partly as a joke, that we should call it I.T By The Sea since we are in the Information Technology business, and we are located by the Gulf of Mexico. Everybody burst out laughing. Little did we know then that… a name was born… During the next few weeks, some of us started refering to the company as I.T. By The Sea both in our internal conversations, and in our relationships with existing and potential clients. The response we received was practically unanimous. People would compliment us on the "cute name." They would also either laugh, or at least smile at the name. I brought my business laptop to I.T. By The Sea because my hard drive was not responding and the computer was terribly infected. I also had a ton of music and photos on my hard drive that I had unfortunately not backed up and was afraid it would be lost forever. business critical data was on the hard drive. I stressed the importance of my data and keeping it safe. I was not only keeping business information on this computer but I also had some of my personal data on this same computer.
