A Global Credit Provider A global credit card provider saves hundreds of thousands of dollars in network upgrade costs in Latin America with Satellite Broadband Network Services from Hughes Global Services. The company operates one of the world’s largest credit card payments network, providing consumer credit, debit, prepaid and commercial payments products and processing services—as well as having the largest ATM network—in more than 200 countries and territories. The African Development Bank (AfDB) Group is a multi-lateral development finance institution established to contribute to the economic development and the social progress of African countries. AfDB has been a Hughes managed services customer since 2008, employing a primary communications network of broadband satellite terminals installed at 32 AfDB field offices throughout Africa. In 2013, managed services were expanded to include MPLS circuits at four AfDB sites to headquarters in Abidjan, Ivory Coast from a teleport in Germany. This new 3-year contract calls for expanding MPLS connectivity to an additional seven (7) bank locations including regional resource centers and key field offices. Major applications include SAP, VoIP, video conferencing and high-speed Internet access. National Weather Service (NWS) selected Hughes to provide a satellite back-up solution for its Operational Systems Network (OPSnet). OPSnet is the primary communications system for NWS to analyze and distribute meteorological, hydrological, satellite, and radar data that is shared with Weather Forecast Offices nationwide. Hughes Managed Services ensures emergency communications and Continuity of Operations (COOP) when disaster strikes. Hughes provides a network of 63 broadband satellite terminals (VSATs) with service and support. Additionally, Hughes provides maintenance, program management, and engineering services, as required. Emtele is a fast growing, innovative M2M service company providing communication network services to remotely monitor and manage devices and machines. Emtele, together with energy customers and partner ecosystems, has developed and rolled out Smart Grid enabling full-service concept FieldCom® to energy distribution customers. Emtele, has selected Hughes Global Services to supply high availability satellite connectivity services as part of a ten-year Smart Grid project for Finnish energy giant, Elenia. Based on the contract, Hughes and Emtele have together now successfully implemented the Smart Grid solution and it has been fully taken into production by Elenia. At the heart of the solution is Emtele’s broadband FieldCom® network service, providing high availability connectivity to all electric distribution substations that are without access to reliable terrestrial networks. UAE-based satellite operator Yahsat selected Hughes to deliver its JUPITER™ System and related network operations services in support of Yahsat’s planned expansion across Africa in early 2017 with the launch of its new Ka-band satellite, Al Yah 3. The multi-year contract calls for Hughes to supply its award-winning JUPITER System gateways and broadband terminals together with its Operating Support System (OSS) and Business Support System (BSS) solutions as a turnkey outsourced managed service. Yahsat’s position as the world’s eighth largest operator in terms of revenue will be further strengthened by the extended coverage of Al Yah 3 to wider parts of Africa. Al Yah 3 will bring additional connectivity into 18 African countries for consumers, SOHO and enterprise segments.
