Hector Ortiz ran the company himself until 1979, when Humberto Ortiz his son took the reins of the family-owned business. Company Horsepower Electric, Inc. is headquartered in its state-of-the-art facility located in Hialeah, Florida and is a Florida State Certified Electrical Contractor EC#0001153 specializing in Transportation Lighting and an industry leader in Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) since 1985. The firm provides a broad spectrum of electrical services to the construction industry, providing talent, resources, equipment, and professional performance to complete every project on budget and on time. Since 1996, Horsepower Electric, Inc. has been the contractor for the Street Lighting Pilot Program for Miami-Dade County. Using the PROACTIVE LIGHTING PROGRAM (PLP) for this pilot program, Horsepower Electric has achieved a significant increase in the uptime of all luminaries providing up to 99% efficiency. The PLP program has eliminated a 300 poles three year backlog of pole knockdowns. Today knockdowns are replaced on a daily basis. The PLP approach has been so successful, that other agencies such as Broward County and Florida Department of Transportation have solicited and implemented the PLP. Our facility includes over 60 vehicles, ranging from jobbing vans to 80-foot bucket and boom trucks. All vehicles are inspected on a regular basis and are professionally maintained at our in-house maintenance facility.
