HOPE GEL, INC., BOCA RATON

Hope Gel is a grassroots, non-profit organization that was established to fight childhood malnutrition in Haiti. We continually strive to increase awareness for our cause with the endless desire to help at least one more child than yesterday… and then one more, and then one more. We don’t have a specific strategy other than to do whatever we can to produce more Hope Gels and increase our distribution outreach. Through our wonderful partnership with Food For The Poor, the distribution of Hope Gels has expanded throughout Haiti and in Guatemala. This is only the beginning and we have so much work to do, so please help in any way that you can, whether by mentioning Hope Gel through social media, a donation if you can, or just spreading some good thoughts, a smile and of course, some Hope! Determination of what product is needed, and how much is needed Delivery of product through shipment, hand delivery and administration, or partnering with distribution channels Every Hope Gel product is of the highest quality, has a long shelf-life, and travels well. Our products are easy to administer, the packaging is creative and bright, and the formulations are great tasting…it’s no wonder kids love to consume them! Hope Gel leads an outreach effort that raises awareness and funds. In addition to traditional fundraising, we have created unique opportunities to raise awareness and for others to get involved. We inspire people to join a commitment to community and social responsibility through programs such as Athletes for Hope Gel, Hope Gel Kids Helping Kids, Hope Day, Mitzvah projects, and more. The collective result is a resounding Hope Gel message to those in need. The message is, “You are not alone; thousands of people have come together to support you. You are important; we care about your life and your future.” Through Hope Gel’s special way of giving, we inspire hope. Hope Gel® is Only the Beginning Hope Gel believes that the nutrition and hope we provide is a starting point. When someone receives a Hope Gel product, that person is considered “Hope Gel Family”. Through our contacts in the areas we serve, we follow Hope Gel Families to the extent that we can and when they are out of medical danger, our goal is to ensure they continue on a path of health and in turn can help others. We have established ties between US Samaritans365 Clubs and Hope Gel Families overseas, and we have created overseas Samaritans365 clubs. Through Samaritans365, Hope Gel Families learn about kindness, how to take care of themselves and then give back to others. We also aim to support Hope Gel Families with education and scholarship assistance. The Hope Gel vision is to make our world a better place by contributing to the global effort of eradicating the physical and emotional effects of malnutrition. With our spirit of teamwork, service, and integrity, Hope Gel creates a starting point for individuals to become healthy so they can, in turn, help others. Through a community-based approach, Hope Gel provides vital nutrients to those suffering from malnutrition – and provides the essential human element of hope to let those impacted know that someone cares. Hope Gel promotes awareness and then a venue for diverse groups of all ages and backgrounds to come together and create solutions. The Hope Gel story begins with Jeffrey Miller, M.D. Dr. Miller, a urologist based in Boca Raton, Florida, dedicates a significant amount of time traveling annually to Haiti providing urological surgeries, procedures and general healthcare to countless Haitians. Along with his wife, Rachel, and daughters Alison and Amanda, Jeff has witnessed the devastating effects that severe acute malnutrition has on the people of Haiti, particularly on children. Around the same time the earthquake decimated Haiti, South Florida-based start-up nutrition company EB Performance, co-founded by Dr. Nathan Feldman, D.C. and Mr. Daniel Schapiro, began marketing its first product to consumers: a natural, organic peanut butter protein bar. Nate and Dan saw a picture of Dr. Miller in the Boca Raton Community Hospital newsletter (now Boca Raton Regional Hospital), handing out peanut butter bars to hungry Haitian children. They were touched and inspired to help. They reached out to Jeff’s office and a meeting was scheduled. The meeting, to say the least, went very well and soon boxes of the organic peanut butter protein bars were on their way to help numerous Haitian children through Jeff’s contacts at the Boca Raton Regional Hospital Foundation. Also during the meeting, the group discussed a riveting special that Dan and Nate saw on 60-Minutes, a special that highlighted the positive and profound impact of Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Foods (RUTFs) and an urgent request from Doctors Without Borders for the production of more. The conversations of that meeting created the foundation from which would evolve today’s Hope Gel The 60-Minutes special and the need for more RUTFs became the driving force to quickly and efficiently produce a new RUTF for distribution to Haiti. Renowned food scientist, Stephen Rittmanic, was instrumental in Hope Gel’s developmental stages. The initial Hope Gel RUTF was formulated and has evolved through different formulations with each progression striving to provide the highest nutritional value, efficacy, and the most cost-effective formulation. Working tirelessly, Dan, Nate, Jeff and Alison Miller loaded Hope Gels, case by case (150 Hope Gels per case), into a small van which was driven to an air transport carrier destined for Haiti. The gels were delivered to contacts Jeff had made during his earlier trips to Haiti and then driven to the town of Milot in northern Haiti where they were delivered to an orphanage and a hospital, Hôpital Sacré Coeur. At the hospital, the distribution of Hope Gels is under the direction of Sister Ann Crowley. Sister Ann serves as the Director of Nutrition and also as the spiritual leader providing comfort, compassion and love to the Haitian families who have been impacted by pain, suffering and malnutrition.
