Our Mission Our mission is to facilitate a true connection between our travelers and our destinations. Since 1974, we’ve taken thousands of travelers on expeditions across Latin America, Africa, and destinations beyond. We combine reliable travel support with deep knowledge to create enriching travel experiences that last a lifetime. Spurred by memories of her pioneering voyage to the Galápagos, a lifelong love of travel, and close ties to the local academic community, Giovanna embarked on a mission to design travel programs that were both educational and affordable. Her tireless efforts led to the founding of Holbrook Travel a few years later in 1974. As the company matured throughout the years, it built relationships with a variety of organizations throughout the U.S. and overseas and increased its destinations and program offerings. More than 40 years later, Holbrook Travel continues to serve the needs of teachers, students, academic institutions, conservation organizations, and nature lovers. In the words of Andrea Holbrook, president: “Our goal is to continue the great work my mother started.” In the 1980s, Giovanna Holbrook rescued 500 acres of Costa Rican primary and secondary rainforest from deforestation. The land is now home to Selva Verde, an eco-lodge and private reserve that protects hundreds of species of mammals, reptiles, amphibians, plants, and birds. Located just two hours from San José, Selva Verde provides easy access to the wonders of the rainforest. We can provide your high school students, youth organizations (such as Girl Scouts), and higher education students dynamic and enriching travel experiences suited to your specific curriculum. College-level credit is available for high school students through Lees-McRae College. Andrea joined the Holbrook Travel team in 1993 and has been the president and CEO since 1998. In addition to her role at Holbrook, she also supports her mother’s work at Selva Verde Lodge and Rainforest Reserve, a place that was her introduction to the hospitality and travel industry as well as a reawakening to her Latina heritage. Andrea is a board member of the Sarapiquí Conservation Learning Center, a non-profit organization closely linked with Selva Verde that connects communities with conservation through education and ecotourism. Worked at Holbrook travel since: Worked at Holbrook travel since: Andrea joined Holbrook Travel in February 2017 as part of the Development Team. She was born and raised in San José, Costa Rica. She holds a bachelor’s degree in management and protection of natural recourses from the Universidad Estatal a Distancia and a university diploma in tourism. She proceeded to work in a fast developed industry in Costa Rica since 2006 – tourism. One of her passions is to show foreign travelers her beautiful country, people and culture. In her journey as a tourism professional, she has developed a strong connection with the people that have worked with her not only in Costa Rica but internationally. During the last three years Andrea has been part of the travel agency world, working as an area manager and taking care of and promoting program quality. In her free time, she loves to be with her family and travel to different countries. He has led marketing, product, and interactive teams at Vantage Travel, Paul Gauguin Cruises, and Grand Circle. He led business development at Overseas Adventure Travel and Saga Holidays, including programs with Smithsonian, Harvard, and The Nature Company. He co-founded EstateWorks, where he drove technology platform development and formed sales partnerships for leading financial institutions. Chris has an MBA from the UCLA Anderson School and a BA from Dartmouth College. He blames his parents for giving him the travel bug at an early age and now has ventured to over 40 countries and 7 continents. Lisa says she was sucked into the world of travel by Holbrook Travel and there was no looking back. She has visited 17 countries, swam with sea lions, and been in the middle of a herd of wild elephants. Ecuador is one of her favorite places to visit because of the rich Andean culture, the breathtaking scenery and beautiful blue water, and the snorkeling and sea lions on the Galápagos. In her free time she loves spending time with her family, being a mom to her daughter and anything that involves being in and around water.
