Henry Joseph & The Victorys
In August 2010 Henry Joseph left Los Angeles for Australia. He had a feeling that the Land of Oz would be fertile soil to realize his musical vision. Six months later Henry had a band composed of some of the finest “musos” in Australia. Henry’s American music combined with musicians from Melbourne’s jazz, rock and pop scenes resulted in a sound and feel that was new and special and everyone involved knew it. The albums
The road traveled by Henry Joseph is a journey of the heart. A magical fusion of Americana and the land down under. His beautiful and haunting melodies lead you into a world of emotion. Henry Joseph’s music moves through genres to create its own mysterious style. Evocative and sensuous. If you truly listen to a Henry Joseph song, you will find love, you will find beauty, and at the same time you will find a place in the song that is left just for you.
When Henry arrived in Melbourne, he began collaborating with producer and bass player Jonathan Zion. “When I first heard Henry Joseph’s music, I knew he was the real deal.” They put together an original group of musos, crossing jazz musicians with a rock n roll guitarist. The Victorys consists of Jonathan Zion, bass; Danny Farrugia, drums and Luke Howard, keyboard combined with guitarist Claude Carranza.
The Stacy and Henry Joseph Story
The artist who painted this, Arifa Tellegen, was one of our first Aussie friends when we moved to Melbourne, Australia in 2010. Her kindness, encouragement, sense of humor and artistic sensibilities helped us feel at home in Oz.
Below is a picture of Henry and Jonathan, (the bass player) during the time they recorded the debut album “Brand New Start.” Jonathan was on a list of muzos (Australian for musician) provided by Deborah Conway, a celebrated Australian singer/songwriter. Deborah was most helpful in this way. She had been referred to us by a mutual friend, iconic Australian comedian, Austen Tayshus. Austen Tayshus and Henry had been friends since meeting in Los Angeles many years earlier.

A night of “AustralAmericana” music will kick off Red Rock Regional Theatre and Gallery’s 2014 season of live music. Melbourne-based musicians Henry Joseph, and guitarist Claude Carranza will perform in a special concert at the Cororooke venue tomorrow. Joseph moved from Los Angeles to Australia to fulfil his dream of being a musician, and within six months he had found sought-after musicians to join him. He has combined his style of music with Melbourne’s jazz, rock and pop sounds to form “AustralAmericana” music. Carranza usually performs with Joe Camilleri’s band when he isn’t with Joseph and his band the Victorys. “There’ll be some material from our as-yet unreleased third album; the core of it will come from the first two albums that we recorded.” Joseph said he decided to perform at Cororooke, north-west of Colac, after hearing from RRRTAG owner Andrew Beale. He said he had visited the venue and was impressed with what he saw. “It’s really a charming venue, and he did such a beautiful job with the Red Rock Regional Theatre and Gallery that I thought ‘yeah, I’d love to perform here”.
