» About Harris Group About Harris Group Harris Group is a multidiscipline engineering consulting firm with offices located throughout the United States. Founded in 1975 and headquartered in Seattle, Washington, we have a full-time staff of over 200 engineers, designers, project managers, and technical and business specialists. Our ability to provide a total project design solution as one organization — from inception through completion — is distinctive in the engineering industry. Our engineers design some of the most complicated, performance-driven environments in the world. At Harris Group we say Bob and Louise Harris founded Harris Group in 1975 with the vision of building an engineering design firm that would develop close relationships with key clients and deliver outstanding project management and engineering services. For nearly 40 years, their passion for delivering exceptional engineering projects has been the cornerstone of Harris Group’s success. Today, some of our strongest client relationships, with clients such as Boeing, Georgia Pacific, and others, continue to work with Harris Group because of our dedication to continuing our founders' legacy. Although he is now retired, Bob remains active with Harris Group and serves as Chairman of our Board of Directors. In the lobby of our corporate office is Bob and Louise’s favorite quote, capturing their belief that character, as well as a successful company, is built through hard work and dedication. With the inspiration of George Schuchart of the construction firm Wright Schuchart Inc. , Bob Harris and Ed Allbaugh form Schuchart & Associates as a consulting engineering firm. Weyerhaeuser becomes an early client. Schuchart & Associates acquires the Portland office of Sandwell International , further strengthening the firm’s collective large project experience. Harris Group and shortly thereafter opens the Denver, Colorado office. Harris Group's Biopharmaceuticals and Life Sciences sector is formed and awarded its first projects with Immunex (now Amgen). By the early 1990s Harris Group had nearly tripled in size and Its revenues had grown at an average annual rate of over 30%. It developed its Aerospace and Manufacturing sector and began its long-term relationship with Boeing. Harris Group celebrates its 20th anniversary by moving into the Emerging Technology and Renewable Fuels and Chemicals sectors and helps its clients to maximize the value of their existing resources. The 21st Century begins an exciting time for Harris Group, as it begins to assist the world’s largest providers of alternative fuels to develop applications for converting natural resources or waste into energy. James Gabriel succeeds Bob Harris as President and CEO. Bob continues with Harris Group as Chairman of the Board of Directors. Harris Group begins its relationship with the Port of Seattle to help develop its facilities and utility infrastructure. This will eventually become Harris Group’s Ports sector and grow to include the Ports of Tacoma and Portland. Harris Group opens the Thousand Oaks, California office to strengthening the Biopharmaceuticals and Life Sciences sector as well as its relationships with Amgen and other clients. The Automation Solutions sector is formed to serve King County, Washington and other municipalities in the Pacific Northwest with control systems integration and automation. Not only does the Automation Solutions team possess knowledge of the latest technological advances and systems, their hands-on approach continues to build trust and support among Harris Group’s clients. The Fuel and Chemical Distribution and Storage sector is formally established after a 10 year history of serving clients such as Shell, Motiva, and other major chemical distribution firms. The San Francisco, California (Lafayette) office opens and strengthens Harris Group’s relationships with firms such as Genentech and Amgen in the Biopharmaceuticals and Life Sciences sector. Harris Group forms an independent affiliate, HG Automation Solutions, LLC to deepen and expand the services its Automation Solutions sector team can offer to its clients. Lynwood based Rice Group merges with Seattle based Harris Group. Rice Group’s employees will join Harris Group’s staff of engineers, designers and project managers. After working together on numerous projects both Randy Hinton (Rice Group President) and John Marrow (Harris Group CEO & President) felt that merging their companies would create greater opportunities for employees and clients alike. They will be integrated into Harris Group’s operations and together as Harris Group will help provide a stronger presence in the industrial and commercial sectors. Rice Group brings additional capability particularly in HVAC, refrigeration, energy life cycle cost analysis, energy modeling and fire protection.
