To serve as liaison between individuals, local businesses and area organizations interested in improving the economic climate of northwest Kansas. These groups include, but are not limited to: local Chambers of Commerce, Northwest Kansas Planning and Development, western Kansas Rural Economic Development Alliance, Kansas Department of Commerce and Housing, Small Business Development Centers, educational institutions, city municipalities and county governments. Projects must demonstrate that they are economically viable. Business start-up, expansion and community development projects are all eligible activities. The objective of creating and retaining permanent private sector jobs requires that the overall project feasibility and job creation potential be emphasized. The focus of the NTRLF is to promote growth while supporting development, which diversifies the region’s economy. What services are provided by Nex-Tech's Economic Development Department in addition to business financing? Resources for start-up businesses in preparing a business plan or market study We are “Here For You.” Nex-Tech serves customers in over 100 communities across northwest and central Kansas and receives many sponsorship requests each month. In order to continue to process these requests efficiently, we have updated our procedures: All funds received must be utilized in the Nex-Tech service area to help promote local spending. Our sponsorship program demonstrates our strong commitment to the communities and organizations that enhance the quality of life in our service area. We are “Here For You” as you plan future projects. Applicants must be high school students, age 16 or 17 at the time of the tour, living in the Nex-Tech service area whose parent(s) or legal guardian(s) receive at least one of the following Nex-Tech residential or business services (Landline Phone, Internet, or Cable TV) excluding any Nex-Tech Wireless service. Absolutely free! Nex-Tech will incur the $1,075 registration fee. In addition, Nex-Tech will coordinate travel arrangements, incur the cost for airfare, and provide $150 for incidentals. Barton, Cheyenne, Cloud, Decatur, Ellis, Ellsworth, Gove, Graham, Jewell, Lincoln, Logan, Mitchell, Norton, Osborne, Ottawa, Phillips, Rawlins, Republic, Rooks, Rush, Russell, Saline, Sheridan, Sherman, Smith, Thomas, Trego, and Wallace. (Nex-Generation partners with Nex-Tech to provide a booth representing key topics pertinent to Kansas Day.) Entrepreneurship/Business Plan Workshops (Students learn about entrepreneurship and how to write a business plan in a hands-on workshop setting.) (High School and college students are matched with local businesses throughout northwest and north central Kansas for paid summer internships. Students gain professional skills and broaden their perspectives on career options. Local businesses benefit by networking with youth, bringing fresh ideas to the workplace, and “interviewing” students for potential future jobs – all of which contribute to youth retention to our small, rural communities. It’s a great opportunity for students and businesses, alike.) (Schools from the area are invited to bring 9th-12th grade students to hear a motivational keynote speaker; listen to multiple breakout session speakers; engage in conversations with area business professionals at booths; and consider the types of career options that are available right here in northwest and north central Kansas. In addition, the Career Fair & Expo provides local businesses a forum to showcase themselves to the students, an opportunity that many students never get a chance to experience.) (Rural AmeriTowne is part of the Young Americans Center, headquartered in Denver, Colorado. It provides interactive curriculum for 5th-6th grades on a variety of life skills, such as owning, managing, or working at a business; advertising; investing; spending money locally (principles of economics); learning about supply and demand; becoming a philanthropist; electing city officials (mayor/judge); and much more. Students attend “Towne” (currently in Wray, Colorado) at the end of the classroom experience where they actually run their “businesses” in a lifelike setting.) Nex-Generation partners with Nex-Tech, Midwest Energy, Sunflower Cooperative Electric, and Golden Belt Telephone to help in sponsoring schools for this program. (Nex-Generation provides a speaker for civic and school meetings and organizations, such as Kansas Association for Youth, Student Council Association, National FFA, National Honor Society, Kansas Farm Bureau Young Farmers and Ranchers, etc., on important youth-related topics that help students grow as leaders and citizens within their communities.) (Nex-Generation works with schools and other organizations to help prepare students for scholarships and employment opportunities. Examples include résumé writing and interviewing skills workshops in the classroom.) and Other Programs that Bridge School and Community (Nex-Generation serves as a liaison to provide students with work study opportunities within their communities.) (Nex-Generation provides schools and community organizations, such as Girl Scouts of Kansas Heartland, with a speaker on a variety of youth-related topics. Enrichment programs help students grow in areas of self-esteem, character, leadership, and service.)
