Beyond teaching content, educators can greatly increase their students’ ability to succeed in the classroom and in their lives by enhancing their non-cognitive as well as cognitive skills. This program provides pragmatic techniques to motivate your students and train their memory and concentration. As educators, we know how to present content to students. But do we provide students the latest techniques to consume the information we present? GO! (Getting Organized) provides specific techniques to train students to study their required content efficiently through effective management of time and materials.   This training will help to raise test scores for your students, decrease discipline challenges, and improve classroom rapport. You will learn how to meet students where they are and lead them where they need to be, capture attention, and promote deeper learning. When I moved to Connecticut, I taught at a public high school for several years while completing my Sixth Year Degree in Administration and Supervision. I then served as the assistant principal in urban/suburban high school for several years. At the same time, I taught writing at a university. Subsequently, I became principal of a middle school. To provide more focused instruction to individual students I decided to establish my own learning center in 1995, which continues today. In addition, I recently resumed teaching at the community college level. Now my mission is to share what I’ve learned and developed with fellow teachers and administrators for the good of our students. I look forward to working with you! Jim Bob’s philosophy about teaching is simple. He agrees with Madeline Hunter when she said, “Kids don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care!” Many think she was being too “warm and fuzzy” but what she meant was you are not going to reach some kids academically until you first reach them on the “human to human” level. Sometimes the subject matter in our classrooms can’t compete with the “drama” in their lives. The main ingredient missing in a lot of our classrooms today is a “connection with kids.” Jim Bob believes that research is clear, when students know you value them as a human being, not just another student; they will work harder for you and challenge you less. He also believes teachers don’t need any more theory and new, trendy programs with catchy names. Jim Bob knows there’s not much we can do from 4:00 PM until 8:00 AM but there is a lot we can do from 8:00 AM until 4:00 PM. Jim Bob is dedicated to helping educators be successful through motivation, inspiration, humor and a common-sense approach to stress management. Most importantly, he leaves educators with as many proven, practical strategies as he can. After all, it was a teacher who once helped Jim Bob overcome his serious childhood stuttering problem. And that minor miracle happened in a classroom, led by an enthusiastic, well prepared, loving teacher. Maniglia established Handle Student programs to provide supplemental support for students of all abilities. To enhance the impact of these very successful programs, Laura and her husband Charles, have developed Handle Education, which is designed to assist educators and administrators in advancing the educational experience for all those involved. Charles A. Maniglia, Ph.D. applies his training as a research scientist to include the latest educational, psychological and brain research to the Handle Education programs.
