Les’ son, Jim, came up with the obvious solution. Being a life-long hunter and gun enthusiast, Jim had gone through the NRA training program and had gotten his certification to teach the NRA’s pistol shooting courses. So, he suggested to his dad that he might consider firearms training as a hobby that could provide a lot of self-satisfaction, help a lot of people, and basically pay it’s on way. Thus, Halls Firearm Training was established in May, 2009. Les spent most of his 30 year career as a law enforcement officer, including positions as: driver’s license examiner, deputy sheriff, criminal investigator, state attorney investigator, and chief deputy (undersheriff). He was certified by the Florida Criminal Justice and Standards Commission and taught basic recruit and recertification classes to law enforcement officers. Les also taught middle school mathematics in the public school systems of Dixie and Columbia Counties and retired in 2008. Les is a certified NRA Training Counselor with certifications to instruct: Pistol, Rifle, Shotgun, Personal Protection In The Home, Personal Protection Outside The Home, Home Firearm Safety, Refuse To Be A Victim, and Range Safety Officer courses. Not only may Les provide student instruction in these areas, but as a Training Counselor, he may also provide instruction for instructors, qualifying them to teach the above listed disciplines. Jim and his wife Carol, and their four children now reside in Goshen, Ohio, (a suburb of Cincinnati), where Jim is a sales representative for Cincinnati Belting and Transmission. Halls Firearm Training The instructors with Halls Firearm Training are highly trained and are certified by the National Rifle Association. The materials and training methods used in our courses were prepared and developed by the NRA through years of experience with constant modification to fulfill the needs of an ever-changing society. Our basic courses provide hands-on learning opportunities: in firearm handling and shooting safety; parts of a firearm and their operation; ammunition and its function; and shooting fundamentals. They also provide an opportunity to develop these skills on the range. Instructions on how to select, clean, and safely store a firearm are also included.
