We are outdoor and nature photographers, focused on creating compelling images of all the wildlife, scenery, and outdoor adventure found on this big beautiful planet of ours. We are firm believers that to be a great nature photographer, you have to be a great naturalist. Through our deep understanding and appreciation of the natural world, we are able to create dynamic imagery that tells a story. With over a decade in the business as professional nature photographers, we bring a unique set of skills, expertise, and vision to your creative project. My passion for nature photography started while taking bike rides with my son when he was a baby. If you have taken one of my workshops, you’ve probably heard the story. If you haven’t, next time you run into me buy me a beer and I’ll tell you all about it. I like hoppy micro brews. A good IPA is probably the universe’s way of telling me “Everything is gonna be alright.” I am also really fortunate that it is a family business. My wife, Nicole, and son, Adam, mean everything to me and that they get to share in this crazy adventure with me makes it all that much sweeter. I am a product of the digital age. I’ve never smelled darkroom chemicals or gotten misty eyed reminiscing over Velvia slides on a light table. Heck, for the first few years of my photography endeavors I thought Velvia was a brand of processed cheese… Although I never dabbled with a traditional SLR, I have a deep respect for those photographers who paved the way before me and often look to them for inspiration. For me, I view being “born” in the digital age as a door that has opened up the world of photography to a broader audience. It’s an exciting time to be a photographer. I am inspired by all the new technology and the extremely cool things that can be done with it to capture creative visions. Every day we are pushing the boundaries of what we thought were possible with a camera. I am very lucky that this thing I call a job is something I love to do. So to me it’s not a job, but my passion. I use the title “Business Manager,” as a short way of saying producer, event planner, keeper of the calendar, customer relations manager, second photographer, photographer’s assistant, wife, mom, and head cake decorator (a position every nature photography business needs!) When you call, it will most likely be my voice you hear on the other end of the phone assisting you with any questions or needs you may have; and when we are on assignment, it will most likely be me making sure everything goes smoothly. I had a variety of successful careers, including manager, trainer, sales rep, and event planner, but coming from a long line of entrepreneurs, I always knew I would someday run my own business. For a variety of reasons, 2008 was the right time for me to jump off of the corporate ship to work with Jason and grow our business. I am often asked how we can be married and work together all day, go out on assignments, vacation together, raise a child together and not kill each other. When you’re with the right person, it just works! We don’t always agree on everything, but we are a great team, and love to brainstorm innovative ideas, tackle projects, and take care of our clients together. When I’m not knee deep in Hahn Nature Photography, you will probably find me involved in one of the community service organizations that I volunteer for or spending some time with our son and being involved with the many activities he is in. I love outdoor adventures with my family; canyoneering, rappelling, caving, camping, whitewater rafting, kayaking, scuba diving, you get the gist. Luckily all three of us are rather adventurous and like a lot of the same crazy things! And while not so outdoorsy, I love to decorate cakes… but only for my son’s birthday or family celebrations.
