GCIS is a non-profit that has been operating for just over ten years. We are a small organization that accepts green iguanas that are no longer wanted or found. Our mission is public awareness, education and rescue of these beautiful nonindigenous creatures. We not only receive green iguanas, we also place them for adoption to responsible owners who can provide a natural habitat for them to thrive in. We recently relocated to the grounds of the Science Center in St Petersburg, and our new facility is triple the size. Unfortunately, more and more rescues come into this habitat and currently we are at maximum numbers. The Gulf Coast Iguana Sanctuary continues to assist in adoption and additional expansion of our facility. We work within the educational curriculum at the Science Center and conduct intermittent outreach presentations to schools and groups. We are happy to assist with rescuing of Iguanas, and the placement of unwanted pets. The Gulf Coast Iguana Sanctuary rescues and provides habitat for abandoned Iguanas in Pinellas County.
