GRL Engineers, Inc. is a pioneer in deep foundation testing, having originated from dynamic pile testing research at the Case Institute of Technology, now known as Case Western Reserve University, in Cleveland, OH, starting in 1964. Incorporated in 1976, GRL has expanded into consulting services utilizing the Pile Driving Analyzer® (PDA) system for deep foundation quality control. The company specializes in innovative technologies such as wave equation analysis, hammer performance evaluation, and non-destructive testing methods. Today, GRL Engineers provides a comprehensive range of services including drilled shafts, driven piles, ACIP/CFA foundations, Micro and Helical Piles, Slurry Walls, Barrettes, and more. Their work extends from small specialized testing to large-scale projects involving extensive monitoring and analysis of hundreds of foundation elements. Under the leadership of Patrick J. Hannigan, P.E., who joined as President in 2011 succeeding Frank Rausche, GRL boasts a team of over 30 highly skilled engineers, many holding advanced degrees with significant experience. These professionals maintain proficiency at Advanced Level or higher on the PDCA/PDI Dynamic Measurement and Analysis Proficiency Test. GRL has been actively involved in consulting projects such as assistance to Complete General Construction Company for pile wall thickness design and static load testing on a bridge project over the Tuscarawas River, Ohio. The company continues to contribute valuable resources like Geotechnical Circular No.12 for deep foundation engineering practices.
