Gracey-Backer, Inc. has been an important player in the independent insurance industry in Florida from the early 1900’s. The agency was founded in 1925 by Matthew Gracey III. Frank P. Gracey joined his brother in 1934 to create a dynamic Insurance and Real Estate firm for the budding area. After World War II, Matthew Gracey IV and Robert B. Gracey joined the firm. Barbara Gracey Backer, (B.S. History of Art, Sweet Briar College and MSA. International Business, George Washington University), Vice-President joined in 1977 and Ronald C. Backer, (B.S. Electrical Engineering, South Dakota State University) and formerly an engineer with Pratt Whitney Aircraft, came aboard in 1987, quickly assuming the title of President. John Gracey Backer, CPA, a graduate of Auburn University (BSBA Finance and Accounting cum laude, Masters of Accountancy) came into the business in 2011 and defines the fourth generation of family ownership. The University of Virginia (BS in Electrical Engineering) and The University of Florida (MS in Business Administration & MS in Electrical Engineering). David joined Gracey-Backer, Inc. in 2014 and further defines the fourth generation of family ownership.
