GITTER GALLERY, LLC is a distinguished company founded by Douglas Gitter in Metairie, Louisiana, incorporated under the law of Florida on June 26, 2007. With a profound passion for contemporary American folk art and sporting art cultivated since his early twenties, Doug Gitter has established an esteemed collection now recognized by prestigious institutions such as the Smithsonian. Gitter Gallery was created in 2006 with the mission to share this love for unique artwork through accessible mediums like canvas art and ceramics. The Clementine Hunter Collection, a celebrated line developed from 2010 to 2015, showcases hand-made ceramic platters and bowls that encapsulate plantation life before agricultural mechanization. This collection is inspired by the acclaimed self-taught artist Clementine Hunter, making artworks affordable once again for everyone's enjoyment. Over time, new products like hand-embroidered pillows and handmade dinnerware have been introduced to this collection. The gallery ensures support for historic preservation with a portion of proceeds from all Clementine Hunter Collection sales being directed to the upkeep of the Clementine Hunter House at Melrose Plantation, a National Historic Landmark. In November 2017, Gitter Gallery launched the Brett Smith Sporting Art Collection, hand-crafted serveware inspired by renowned artist Brett Smith's hunting and fishing paintings. This collection includes nine distinctive styles like 'Keepers' and 'Quail Country,' designed to cater to both outdoor enthusiasts and art collectors alike. With a rich history of combining folk art with dining experiences as demonstrated in his previous ventures, including being one of the first restauranteurs to integrate such art into restaurants, Doug Gitter continues to expand and enrich the offerings at the gallery. The company maintains its dedication to sharing significant pieces of American heritage through accessible art forms. GITTER GALLERY is presently managed by Douglas K. Gitter and was last officially recognized on October 16, 2018, when steps were taken for reinstatement under filing number L07000067492.
