Gilbert Motorsports Although officially founded in 1996, Gilbert Motorsports can trace its roots back as far as the late 80’s to any number of motocross tracks along the east coast. By the mid 90’s, team owner Kris Gilbert had traded in his off-road boots for a fire suit as he and team driver, Quentin Metheny, began drag racing their cars down tracks all over Virginia, including the famous Old Dominion Speedway. Quentin spent the next several years honing his skills and earning a solid reputation as a top contender with his 1967 Chevy II. That consistency and discipline will be on display as Quentin Metheny will be competing in PDRA and Southern Outlaw Top Sportsmen events inside of the Pro-Modified 1969 Chevrolet Camaro. Featuring an 815 cubic inch Lee Edwards Racing engine and a Wayne Rogers power glide transmission, this is not a car you’re going to want to miss. If the Camaro isn’t enough for you, the team will also feature a Super Pro 1957 Chevy Bel Air powered by a 434 Chevy small block and power glide transmission. Racing truly is a family sport, which led the team to add two junior dragsters to the roster in early 2015. These machines, piloted by Jacob and Chase Gilbert, are manufactured by Half Scale Dragsters, Inc. and are the perfect way introduce the newest generation of racers to the sport. They are built with safety and adjustability in mind and will offer the kids a unique insight into racing by helping them realize the dedication and many hours of preparation it takes to achieve those few seconds of glory. It may not seem fast to the adults, but 40 mph to a child might as well be 400mph. Monster Truck fever worsened in 2016 as Gilbert Motorsports welcomed Toxic. Originally built for Petri Motorsports in New York, the Toxic truck has been delighting fans of all ages with it’s bright green and orange radioactive design and 1500 horsepower engine. We couldn’t be more excited to get behind the wheel of this future legend and crush a few cars!
