Founded in 1996, although traceable back to the late '80s at numerous East Coast motocross tracks, Gilbert Motorsports has established itself as an influential presence in motorsport. The company was officially founded by Kris Gilbert and gained distinction when team driver Quentin Metheny transitioned from off-road racings, such as motocross, to drag racing. By the mid-1990s, Quentin had developed a reputation as a formidable competitor, driving his 1967 Chevy II at tracks like Old Dominion Speedway across Virginia. Today, Gilbert Motorsports is known for its diverse roster of competitive vehicles including the Pro-Modified class 1969 Chevrolet Camaro and a Super Pro 1957 Chevy Bel Air. These are equipped with advanced components such as an 815 cubic inch Lee Edwards Racing engine and Wayne Rogers power glide transmission, making them key attractions at PDRA and Southern Outlaw Top Sportsmen events. In 2016, the team expanded into the realm of monster trucks with Toxic, a vehicle originally designed for Petri Motorsports in New York.
