Gil has served as President of Gil Development Inc. and Gil Homes. He became president of his family-owned and operated company in 1989 after attending the School of Architecture at the University of Miami. It was at this time that the company partnered with several businesses building home developments throughout Miami-Dade County. The success of these ventures positioned Gil and Gil Development to exceed their goals in home sales year after year. Under Gil’s leadership, the family business reached its objective of becoming an independently operated company in 2000. Gil Development is currently building commercial and residential developments throughout Miami-Dade County as well as Tampa, Florida. Gil Homes and Gil Development have received numerous awards from the Latin Builders Association (LBA) and the Builders Association of South Florida (BASF) for their community developments and model designs. The company has been a member of both prestigious associations for the past two decades. Gil has served on the LBA Board of Directors since 1989. In 2002, he was elected president-elect of the LBA and in October 2004 he became the association’s president. He also held a position with the BASF’s Community Affairs Committee. Gil is dedicated to serving the Miami-Dade community. He has sat on the Development Process Advisory Committee, which advises the Mayor and Miami-Dade County Commissioners on issues affecting the building industry. He also serves as a member of the Beacon Council and Baptist Hospital Foundation Board. Recently, Gil was appointed by the Miami-Dade County Manager to sit on the Miami-Dade Community Affordable Housing Strategies Alliance Task Force, the Mayor’s Blue Ribbon Customer Review Group and is the Chair of the Florida Hispanic Legislative Foundation. In April 2007, he was inducted into the Miami Dade College Hall of Fame for Urban Development and today serves as Treasurer on the Miami-Dade College Foundation Board. Gil lives in unincorporated Miami-Dade County with his wife Lisa and their fourteen-year-old daughter Andrea. Augusto Gil, the CEO and Founder of Gil Development, Inc. He has developed tract and luxury homes for over four decades as well as multistory apartment and condominium buildings in Miami-Dade County. His journey in the field of Real Estate development began in 1968 when he fled the tyrant dictatorship of Fidel Castro in his home land of Cuba and as many immigrants that come to this country looking for a better life for their family he quickly went to work in the only trade he knew (construction) very shortly thereafter he joined a team of Partners which gave him the opportunity of a life time. Like every great partnership everyone involved played a key role in its success, Augusto Sr.’s role was to run the daily field operation of multiple ongoing developments throughout South Florida. Their developments were scattered all over, from the City of North Miami to South in Naranjia, East Little Havana to West in Kendall Lakes. The diversity of project types and locations gave him vast knowledge in this field. Fast forward 40 plus years and today Augusto Sr. continues to play an important role in the operations of Gil Development by sharing his thoughts and ideas as well as his intensive experience with the Gil Family board. His on the field involvement is also an incredible help and support to the team. The company looks forward and counts on having Augusto Sr. around for many years to come. Julia Gil is the Chief Financial Officer of Gil Development. After receiving her higher education degree in Havana, Cuba Julia found herself immigrating to this country with her husband and young son. Not knowing the English language but wanting to provide a better life for her family she started taking classes at night after spending her day working in a luggage factory. Once she managed the language she studied accounting. Her accounting experience began when she went to work for Southeast Bank and then through the years continued by auditing many small businesses in South Florida she managed for an accounting firm she worked for. In the late 80’s she started to run the accounting department exclusively for Gil Development, today she currently oversees all of the Company’s Corporate Accounting and Insurance Audits. Alex Gil is Gil Development’s Vice-President, after graduating from High School he went straight to work for the family’s company. Alex’s passion has always been to work outdoors and to be hands on, an important requirement in the construction business. His vast experience spreads out through many fields of the business such as residential multifamily and luxury homes, in the commercial field he is well versed in all types of medical office and restaurant build-outs as well as ground up development of warehouse and office buildings. Today Alex runs the day-to-day field operations of Gil Development. Gil Development Inc. has been actively engaged in South Florida’s energetic building industry for over four decades. While originally focusing on residential endeavors, the company soon expanded the scope of its operations to include the development of commercial properties, and is today one of South Florida’s busiest and most successful builders. Gil Development began developing commercial buildings in the mid 1990s. They started exploring this field by building industrial warehouses in the southern part of Miami-Dade County.
