We implemented Project SAFEguard throughout our school district. We are extremely pleased with the results. Our environment is safer today due to its implementation. We were guided through the process by several professionals who were knowledgeable and courteous. Their expertise in security protocol and technological innovations is invaluable. The on-site product is easy to use and enhances our ability to interact with first responders. The program included a review of our district and building emergency management plans. We updated the plans under the guidance of trained professionals. Best practices were outlined in their recommendations and safety drills were re-designed to include these recommendations. We are continuing to work with our partners beyond the initial scope of Project SAFEguard to add new safety procedures and technological improvements. We appreciate the time and effort offered to us by our partners in safety.
We have effectively been utilizing GEOcommand for approximately 3 years. After the expected initial learning curve, the program offers the opportunity and availability to continually add information and data. GEOcommand is used on a daily basis to not only locate properties, but share vital information pertaining to, the identified property, such as cross streets, fire hydrants, entries and exits to buildings, handicap household, hazardous materials and contact information. All critical bits of knowledge the responder should be advised of prior to arrival and GEOcommand gives the dispatcher this information quickly and effectively. Data for these areas, whether it be a factory, residential home or golf course can change frequently. GEOcommand's customer service has been excellent in continuously updating the system as needed with data information as well as advances in technology. The consistent expansion of the program offers an ever increasing expanse of data via the click of the mouse. Customer service is readily available to answer questions, assisting with programming concerns and as well as on-site service. Training is offered at our convenience and GEOcommand is always open to suggestions and requests.
I believe that GEOcommand is an outstanding product that offers public safety, specifically, an unprecedented opportunity to improve interoperability. Institutional knowledge is an invaluable tool that is at the core of the fire service. Knowing the community, the places and people in it as well as their problems is a source of pride that firefighters have historically been exceptionally good at turning into this functional operational tool. As communities grow and society becomes more diverse and complicated this institutional knowledge becomes much more difficult to manage and apply. GIS and specifically GEOcommand allows public safety agencies to create a data base of vital institutional knowledge that is able to travel into the operational field on ambulances, engines, ladder trucks and command vehicles. This means that all of the preplanning that was either held in memory or stored in file cabinets in offices is available to personnel going to and working on a scene not only in their own communities but in mutual aid communities as well. The Mansfield Fire Department has been associated with GEOcommand for several years and during that time we seen a very strong development of this product and look forward to its expansion.
Our location-specific platform provides interactive, easy to use tools to improve situational awareness, emergency response times and as a consequence to improve safety and security.
