Brachytherapy is a powerful form of radiation therapy that destroys a number of different types of cancers including prostate, gynecologic and breast cancer. It can be used as a standalone cancer treatment or after a tumor has been surgically removed to eliminate any remaining cancerous cells and help prevent a recurrence.
Your Medical Oncologist or Surgical Oncologist may recommend one of three different forms of chemotherapy. Neo-adjuvant or primary systemic chemotherapy is used before radiation or surgery to help shrink the tumor. Adjuvant chemotherapy is used after radiation or surgery to destroy any remaining cancer cells. Systemic chemotherapy circulates throughout the body via the bloodstream when the cancer is metastatic.
Educated and trained at some of the top medical schools and teaching hospitals in the nation, our urologists combine proficiency with exceptional skill in advanced surgical techniques. Our urology practices provide state-of-the-art technology including laser surgery, minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery, da Vinci Robotic surgery, extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy, microwave thermotherapy, cryosurgery, external beam radiation therapy, and brachytherapy. Our practices are associated with nearby surgery centers or hospitals and have relationships with other physicians in the community to provide a full spectrum of care.
Gynecologic oncologists are subspecialty trained to diagnose and manage cancers of the female reproductive organs. These physicians have completed residency training in obstetrics and gynecology, followed by subspecialty training with a gynecologic oncology fellowship. They understand the nuances of gynecology and recognize the specific role of surgery (radical or conservative), chemotherapy and radiation therapy to maximize the opportunity for a good outcome.
Our gynecologic oncologists are committed to providing high quality, personalized care to patients with complex gynecologic problems and suspected diagnosed cancers of the female reproductive tract.
