Generation OM aims to provide fellowships to American Hindu students undertaking undergraduate degrees and to guide them in following the Hindu religion. We raise funds to finance these fellowships. Mission The Generation OM Mission Statement is based on the quote from Winston Churchill on our front page: Generation OM was founded in 2007 by Pardeep K. Vedi and Amardeep Vedi. While searching for undergraduate fellowships with his two children who were attending Florida universities, he noticed that while there were fellowships for various religious, faith based and ethnic groups, there were none specifically for the American Hindu students. After discussion with his children (Nisha Vedi thought of the name of the Corporation, and Amardeep Vedi designed the Generation OM logo and assisted with the website development) and encouragement and assurance from his wife, Generation OM was born out of the need to support our American Hindu students. Generation OM is entirely managed and administered via volunteer effort and is largely funded by individual contributions. Donated funds are carefully monitored and disbursed with full transparency and accountability. Donations will be solicited from family, friends, well-wishers, and local businesses. Please Generation OM aims to provide American Hindu students with tools, resources and activities that support and further their education and understanding of Hinduism. As we approach our 10th Anniversary the Board Members have reflected on the results and impact of our Organization thus far to plan for the next ten years. In crafting our vision we're focusing on how Generation Om can increase opportunity for our community and our recipients. While some changes may seem slight, such as renaming our “Scholarship” to a “Fellowship”, and others seem big–like opening up our program to be more inclusive of different career paths–both stem from our ardent belief that the criterion for success as Generation Om Ambassador is a passion and commitment to serving and leading in our communities. Our Generation Om Fellows will exemplify a life of peace and harmony with all communities in America, becoming role models for the Hindu community and showing how to function in America's society while retaining their ethnic Hindu identity and culture. The Fellowship is not simply a payment to award previous performance but an incentive and gesture of support to those who are committing to Generation Om’s vision and service expectation. Being a Fellow will take time, effort, planning, and excitement. All three of the Generation OM Fellowship awards are based on numerous factors including but not limited to the applicant’s: college, academic performance, community involvement, application essays, and interview performance. Those granted the Fellowship will become Generation OM Youth Ambassadors and are required to take an active part in the Organization’s community events.
