Generation OM, Inc., founded in 2007 by Pardeep K. Vedi and Amardeep Vedi, is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting American Hindu students pursuing undergraduate degrees through educational fellowships. Inspired by Winston Churchill’s words, displayed on the website, the mission focuses on guiding these students to follow their spiritual path while achieving their academic goals. The idea for Generation OM came from recognizing an unmet need for fellowship opportunities specifically tailored for American Hindu students who were missing out in a landscape that already catered to various religious and ethnic groups. Amardeep Vedi helped with the company's logo design, website development, and even contributed the initial $10,000 donation. Meanwhile, Nisha Vedi provided input on naming the organization. As the organization celebrates its 10th anniversary, it plans strategic growth and inclusivity by changing 'Scholarships' to 'Fellowships.' This change reflects a mission to include a broader range of career paths while continuing to emphasize service and community leadership among Fellows who serve as role models and bridge their ethnic identities with American society. The awarded fellowships are merit-based, evaluating aspects like college performance, academic achievements, community involvement, application essays, and interviews. Successful recipients earn the title of Generation OM Youth Ambassadors and actively contribute to community-building initiatives.
