Galaxy Diagnostics was launched in 2009 to commercialize a more sensitive test for Alpha Proteobacteria Growth Medium (BAPGM), developed by scientists at North Carolina State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine. The company was founded by Dr. Edward Breitschwerdt and Dr. Ricardo Maggi and led by Dr. Amanda Elam from launch of testing services through early market development. The One Health approach recognizes that the health of people is connected to the health of animals and the environment. It is important because six of every 10 infectious diseases in humans are spread from animals.
