About Gainesville Chinese School The Gainesville Chinese School was founded in 1989 to provide the Gainesville community with an opportunity to learn more about the Chinese language and culture. Beginning at the University of Florida’s Reitz Union with less than 40 students, GCS has expanded to the Oak Hall School to teach second-generation children in the local community. Help those interested in Mandarin Chinese to progress in their education and achieve a certain level of skill and excellency. Gainesville Chinese School has been an integral part of Gainesville’s educational and cultural heritage for more than 30 years. During last year’s hiatus, former principals and teachers came together to design a modern program intended to give children a complete and invigorating classroom experience.
