Maron B. Calderwood Mays, VMD, PhD, Diplomate ACVP, is a veterinary pathologist practicing at Florida Vet Path, Inc., Bushnell and Gainesville, FL, in partnership with Anita R. Kiehl, DVM, MS, Diplomate ACVP. She is also a consultant veterinary pathologist for Marshfield Laboratories, Marshfield, WI, has provided anatomic pathology services for other laboratories, and has a courtesy appointment in the Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences, College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Florida. She has 27 years� experience in general diagnostic veterinary pathology and has been in the private practice of veterinary pathology since 1992. Prior to that she was a professor in the Department of Comparative and Experimental Pathology, University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine, where she served as Chief of Surgical Pathology and Coordinator of the Residency Program in Anatomic Pathology. Dr. Calderwood Mays has been a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Pathologists since 1982. Her major professional interests are in surgical pathology, dermatopathology, oncology, and the development of new and practical diagnostic techniques. She served as secretary of her local VMA for many years, has held several other offices in that organization, and participates in numerous other professional organizations including the American Academy of Veterinary Dermatology. Other professional activities have included coordinator of the 15 Specialty Groups of the ACVP for several years, and Associate Editor of the journal Veterinary Pathology. She is author or co-author of over 70 journal articles and book chapters.
FVP Consultants, Inc, a private pathology consortium, was founded in 2003 as a Florida state minority owned business. The board certified, American College of Veterinary Pathology diplomates consult with clinical and basic researchers on both GLP and non-GLP research projects. In addition to standard light microscopy, interpretation of immunohistochemistry, immunocytochemistry, electron microscopy, and other specialized techniques is available.
Submissions for hematologic, cytopathologic, or histopathologic analysis are frequently at the conclusion of an experiment. We also welcome the opportunity to work with researchers at the study design and grant writing stage.
