Tara Dent loves to move – and to lead others to love to move. For more than 15 years, she has helped others become brighter, stronger and freer versions of themselves by connecting them with sources of strength and support including faith, confidence, abilities and spirit. She helps people escape expectations and the critic within, and to love and celebrate who they are. A certified dance/movement therapist, she has a master’s degree in that discipline from Columbia College Chicago and earned a graduate certificate in Laban Movement Analysis.
She is a bright and liberating presence who leads people to lighter and brighter ways of being in the world. A performer at heart, she elevates others with her unique “motion potion,” an enlightened blend of dance and healing movement practices and techniques that strengthens body, mind and spirit connections. She lives on the Emerald Coast of Florida where she provides inspirational support to seniors at assisted living facilities, memory care populations, adults with brain injuries, people living with disabilities and people just like you. She is available for classes, workshops, consultations and conferences.
The experience moved me beyond words, provided me with personal and professional direction and illuminated for me the value of dance, movement and music as ways to reach others, draw out their talents and abilities, increase their confidence levels and lead them to beam to their brightest.
We are intended to achieve our brightest potential, to realize our worth. I believe with every fiber of my being that we diminish ourselves if we settle for anything less. By shining brightly, we experience worthiness.
Now for 15 years, I have worked with people categorized as “disabled,” people including Tosha and Harry, in photos, above, taken at the Arc of the Bay in Lynn Haven, Florida. For me, many people who live with disabilities are unconditionally kind and loving HUMAN BEAMs with a special kind of brilliance, big hearts and love-lights. They brim with a spirt of forgiveness, permission, play, fun and joy.
She taught me how to build a trust relationship without using words. She introduced me to concepts including mirroring, a nonverbal technique that DMTs use to build trust and foster self-acceptance in others. I learned how to use movement to help people feel more secure and to infuse them with confidence. I learned how to help them express themselves and become less afraid and more independent. They did the very same for me.
