As the first woman from Hong Kong to climb Mount Everest, Ada embodies these values—and all with a sense of humor. Recently, Fossil Group invited Ada to its Hong Kong office to share her story. Over the next year, Ada continued her high intensity training, making many sacrifices to reach her goal. Despite the adversity Ada faced throughout her journey, she never gave up. Fossil Group is proud to partner with the pioneering social enterprise Binc in support of their mission of inclusivity. On behalf of the more than one billion people in the world living with a disability, Binc’s groundbreaking #valuable campaign aims to spark a new age of inclusion that positions disability on the global business agenda. Binc’s mission is one particularly close to founder Caroline Casey’s heart. Born with a rare condition called ocular albinism, the Ireland native is legally blind, unable to see clearly beyond a range of a few inches. Caroline succeeded in spite of her obstacles, climbing the ranks of the highly competitive management-consulting industry. Yet others living with disabilities are more likely to experience lower educational achievement, reduced economic participation, and higher rates of poverty. Determined to rewrite this narrative, Caroline left her consulting career in 2001 and has worked ever since as a champion for change. She founded Binc in 2015, intent on harnessing the power of business to inspire social transformation. Her mission with #valuable: To get 500 companies to commit to putting the issue of inclusivity on their business agenda by the end of 2018 and in turn, spark a worldwide revolution of inclusion. Fossil is proud to support Caroline’s trek, helping her spread her message of inclusivity across the globe. “Fossil has already proven its social muscle through its pioneering work to narrow the global opportunity gap—it is a fantastic example of how business really can be a force for good in society,” Caroline said. “Fossil has been the first business to speak out and support #valuable. Without them, this crucial campaign would not be possible.” Making an Impact: Shirley Tam Shirley Tam is on a mission to unleash the potential of youth. She’s a regional planning manager for our Hong Kong office, and is passionate about supporting educational programming for youth in some of the poorest districts of Hong Kong. Shirley is the type of volunteer who shows up, makes an impact and asks—”Ok, what’s next?” She embodies grit and passion, and we’re proud to celebrate the impact that she’s making through community volunteerism across Asia. I love helping and empowering underserved youth. I was born in Sham Shui Po, the poorest district in Hong Kong—I know what it feels like to look to the future without optimism. Now, I’m lucky to have my own job and earn money to support my family. Through my life experiences, I strongly believe education is very important. My favorite volunteer work that I am doing is helping kids with their homework and reading to them. How does Fossil support you in Making Time For Good? Our two [annual] Greater Together tours give us a variety of volunteer opportunities—everything from helping youth to adults and the elderly. This is uncommon in Hong Kong companies as I feel many prefer to organize only one event with the sole purpose to build a good corporate image. Fossil Group also gives us volunteer hours to dedicate our time to helping those in need. How are you making an impact on Fossil Group, your community and/or the planet? , we provide different kinds of teaching materials like flashcards, felt shapes and more to teachers in Nepal. , which helps raise the quality of life for underprivileged children in Asia by providing effective educational programs typically not available to them. —an easily accessible website to see which NGOs need the most help. We also keep challenging and improving our work day by day.
