Spray Polyurethane Foam, commonly referred to as SPF, is an insulating plastic that is sprayed on as a liquid that quickly expands to several times its original thickness creating a water tight roofing material. It has been used as a roofing system since the 1960's, and is endeared by large businesses for its ability to save more than 30% annually on heating and cooling costs and effectively pay for itself in a few years! Because it is a continuous solid surface after application, it offers exceptional strength against high winds.
Maintaining SPF is easy with a basic understanding of the roof. Spray foam roofs are virtually indestructible and resilient to all but one element, the Sun. More specifically, Ultraviolet (UV) rays of the sun are what can damage the SPF roof. At the time of installation two silicon top-coats are applied to a new SPF roof to protect it from the Sun's UV Rays. Virtually no maintenance is necessary, except to reapply the Silicone coatings approximately every 15-20 years. The top-coats protect the SPF in the same way we use sunscreen to protect our skin. Occasional cleaning of the roof is also an opportunity to inspect the roof for any cracks or damage. Small areas can be easily repaired with a pigmented silicone caulk that can be obtained from Foam Applications, Inc. or some hardware stores.
Roof system that also offers a high insulation value to provide significant energy savings
For the overall energy efficiency of their roofing system GE Silicones (Bayer Material Science) were named a charter partner in the EPA's Energy Star program. A polyurethane roof with silicone coatings can reduce an individual buildings electrical bill by as much as 50 percent, and also help reduce the effect of urban heat islands.
Foam Applications, Inc. is a licensed and insured Spray Polyurethane Foam (SPF) roofing contractor. Foam Applications single focus is the installation and maintenance of SPF roofing systems for commercial and industrial applications.
SPF Roofing Systems provide many benefits to building owners. The two primary benefits are waterproofing and insulation value. Many additional benefits exist such as durability, longevity, lightweight, self-flashing, and strength especially with pre-engineered metal buildings.
