FLORIDA WOODTURNING SYMPOSIUM INC., Ocala

Due to popular demand, we are planning to repeat the The Florida Woodturning Symposium is the largest woodturning event in Florida and is held each year at the Lake Yale Baptist Conference Center. A self-contained, wooded campus where you are immersed in nothing but woodturning for 2 1/2 days. This is one of the best ways to take the next step in your woodturning. The Florida Woodturning Symposium began in December 2001 through the efforts of three Florida Chapters of the American Association of Woodturners. Seven AAW Chapters now put on the symposium and attendance has grown each year thanks to the high quality of our demonstrators and our Hands-on-Workshops. The FWS’s mission is to promote the art of woodturning through the annual symposium and other events. The Florida Woodturning Symposium is held each year at the Lake Yale Baptist Conference Center located between Eustis and Leesburg on County Road 452. The facility provides us access to hotel rooms, RV Sites, and a cafeteria for our convenience during the symposium. Since this is the Florida Baptist Conference Center, there are a few rules we must observe while on their property. There are a limited number of ADA rooms at Lake Yale during the Symposium. In order to help you determine whether these rooms meet your needs we have included these pictures of a typical ADA room. Florida Woodturning Symposium Policies Our policies page is a helpful guide for attendees, vendors and demonstrators to understand symposium site rules and registration guidelines. It is important to understand each policy to make your weekend as enjoyable as possible. If you have any questions regarding our policies, please contact us using the appropriate email address on the contact page. This fee gains you access to all symposium events; the instant gallery, trade show, rotations (demonstrations), an opportunity to win an educational grant and the Friday/Saturday evening functions. Accompanying spouses that do not attend demonstrations are not charged this fee We will provide a full refund if you notify us 30 days before the Symposium. We charge a $ 25.00 processing fee if we are notified less than 30 days but more than 14 days before the Symposium. If you notify us 14 days or less before the Symposium, we will only provide a refund in the event of an emergency, and we will still charge the $25.00 Online registration information is encrypted and processed in the most secure methods we have at our disposal. Personal information provided is used only to the extent necessary to plan for capacity of facilities and services. We do not distribute, publish, sell or in any way communicate the registration information provided by our attendees. The FWS Committee will provide security of the Instant Gallery during the Symposium, but cannot be held liable for any damage or loss of the entries. When you attend the 2018 Florida Woodturning Symposium, you will naturally want to take something back home with you. It may be a new tool, a piece of wood, a trip to a turning school or a beautiful turned item, maybe one made by a world-renowned turner. There are 4 ways to make this happen: Each year, we hold an auction to raise funds to support our educational program and to provide the grants and scholarships. We do this in a 2-step process where we sell most of the items by silent auction, then promote the top 25 pieces to the live auction. This makes sure only the most highly sought after items are put on stage for the live auction, thereby assuring the most excitement to the bidders, a shorter evening event, and the maximum proceeds for the educational program. – assist the Registrar placing room keys in appropriate folders; stuff last minute items into folders; when an attendee checks-in, give them their folder and check them off the attendee list; help with other things in the registration area as requested. -or- help at the donations & Instant Gallery Log-In desk if needed. – assist the Demonstrator to provide the audience with the best experience possible; notify a Symposium Committee Member if the Demonstrator requires anything or the camera equipment malfunctions; operate the camera so that you provide the best “front-row-seats” views possible for members of the audience.
