FLORIDA SHERIFFS ASSOCIATION, Tallahassee

Florida Sheriffs Association Statement on Heinous Attack at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Welcome to the Florida Sheriffs Association (FSA) official website. I am pleased to serve as the President of the Association during the next year. You will find information about the Office of Sheriff and the sheriffs currently serving Florida’s 67 counties. In the United States of America, sheriffs have long played a significant role in preserving peace and justice as we protect and serve the people. The FSA has been in existence since 1893 and is one of the oldest professional law enforcement associations in the nation. Our mission as an Association is to foster the effectiveness of the sheriffs through leadership, innovation, legislative initiatives, education and training, while providing a unified voice for the protection of Florida’s citizens and visitors. We are law enforcement leaders responsible for meeting the needs of 21st Century America. Our core principle includes having strong relationships with all communities throughout Florida by embracing community policing as a strategy. The FSA recognizes and values the partnerships we have with our Honorary Members as well as with our business and law enforcement members. Thank you for your continued membership and support. If you are not an honorary member, please consider joining by completing the , whose mission is to prevent delinquency and develop strong, lawful, resilient and productive citizens who will make a positive contribution to our communities for years to come. Florida Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission 1978 – FSA helped create a way to provide affordable insurance programs for individual Sheriffs' Offices with the founding of the Florida Sheriffs Self-Insurance Fund. The program has saved taxpayers millions of dollars on liability claims and annual premiums. 1979 – FSA helped organize the   – a program that encourages law-enforcement agencies to maintain the highest standards of professional law enforcement for our communities. As vacancies are created on the commission, the FSA president is responsible for appointing their replacement.  which provides executive level training for criminal justice executives through out the state. 1998 – FSA helped to create the  Florida Corrections Accreditation Commission  to help combat the high crash and fatality rate of teen drivers. The program has rapidly expanded and is now available in nearly half of Florida’s counties. 2008 – FSA helped launch the Florida Deputy Sheriffs Association as a means to provide insurance protection, legal benefits and other services to Florida deputies. 2011 – The Perkins-Phillips Building was dedicated as the new official headquarters of the Florida Sheriffs Association. Named for Gary Perkins and Buddy Phillips, past executive directors who played integral roles in FSA history, it replaced the original building that was destroyed in a tragic fire in 2008. Florida Sheriffs Association Annual Partner Program The FSA Annual Partner/Conference Sponsor Program provides a unique opportunity to highlight your products and services at the FSA Conferences with additional exposure to the sheriffs and other law enforcement decision-makers. The Florida Sheriffs Association (FSA) is a 501(c)(3) not for profit corporation, registered in the State of Florida, which promotes effective law enforcement and public safety programs. As such, FSA does not engage in political activity or endorse political candidates in accordance with IRS rules and regulations. While sheriffs are free to endorse political candidates, such endorsements should not be viewed as the official position of the Florida Sheriffs Association. The Florida Sheriffs Association does not house uniform items, such as patches or insignias. We suggest going direct to the individual agencies -- we have 67 sheriffs in the state of Florida. One word of caution: these patches can be expensive and are an expense to the county taxpayer, so be sure to inquire about any prices associated with acquiring the badge and mailing costs. Our membership office can help you with any lost or misplaced information. Just email our office: To honor the heroes of sheriffs' offices who gave their lives in the line of duty, the Florida Sheriffs Association created the FSA Law Enforcement Memorial in 2002. The Florida Sheriffs Association serves the 67 sheriffs offices in Florida with education, training, conferences, advocacy, programs, and more. We are often asked how we are supported financially. The answer is a testament to the strength of our organization and what we represent. As is shown in the chart below, the largest percentage of our support comes from our members – more than 70,000 individuals, law enforcement officers and businesses faithfully contributing just $25 to $100 per year to support local law enforcement. The other major funding streams are derived from our cooperative purchasing program, other donations and annual partners and sponsors at our conferences. We are proud that more than 78 percent of FSA’s annual revenues go directly into programs that support law enforcement in all counties throughout the state. Join more than 1,000 Floridians who are helping to make our deputies safer, and show your support for the Florida Sheriffs Association and your local Sheriff’s Office by picking up your FSA specialty license plate today! The FSA plate is being sold to help offset a recent decline in state funding for advanced and specialized training for criminal justice officers. Now, funding can continue at no additional cost to taxpayers -- plus you get a stylish new way to show your support for your local sheriff and Florida law enforcement. Of the $30 tag fee, $25 will be used to develop and provide important training for members of your local Sheriff’s Office as well as deputies across the state. Additional fees may apply.
