Founded in 1969, we now operate more than 60 programs including children’s programs, crisis residences, programs to help the homeless, residential programs, treatment services, case management, and in-home health services. In 2015 we served more than 10,000 people with a budget of $41 million. Helping people with mental illness requires great flexibility and creativity. That’s why we start with the person first—developing innovative, effective services that provide the care, resources, and connections that will help each person in the best way possible. “Mental illness” is a label for a wide range of conditions, and individuals are affected in very different ways. Some get along well with just medication, while others need more intensive support with chemical addictions or developing social skills. People Incorporated looks at each individual’s needs first, and puts together the care, resources, and connections that will help each person in the best way possible. And our client satisfaction survey results prove that what we do works: Kathleen credits People Incorporated’s Riverwind Crisis Residence with saving her life when she was clinically depressed. She and her daughter talk about the care and help she received. Over half of people living without shelter have some form of mental illness. Rick’s story illustrates how our “spectrum of care” can help a homeless person with mental illness gradually move off the street and into independent housing. Susan T. Rydell is a founder of Metropolitan State University where she has held a variety of faculty and administrative positions. She is a past-president of the Minnesota Psychological Association and currently oversees the association’s continuing education programs for psychologists and other mental health professionals. She is a peer reviewer and team chair for the Higher Learning Commission. Dr. Rydell holds a B.A. in Psychology from Smith College and a Ph.D. in Psychology from the University of Minnesota. Kyle is a licensed attorney with more than twenty-one years of experience in all facets of civil litigation including: legal analysis and research, trials, and appellate practice. Kyle has twelve plus years of practical knowledge managing a wide variety of class action and other complex litigation matters venued throughout the United States of America. He has significant expertise in claims handling, litigation management, and with supervising claims adjusters in the resolution of professional errors and omissions claims. Prior to joining Berkley Technology Underwriters, Kyle was corporate counsel for a national company where he gained valuable experience performing corporate governance and compliance audits and conducting investigations into data breach, regulatory compliance, and corporate governance matters. Mike Turpin joined People Incorporated in 2015 as General Counsel. His background includes over eight years of legal experience in the health care and government fields, including serving as General Counsel for MNsure where he served on the senior management team and managed all legal and compliance functions for the agency. He also served as Deputy General Counsel for the Minnesota Department of Human Services where he provided advice and assistance to the Department on a wide variety of legal topics. Prior to his legal career, Mr. Turpin was a public school teacher working with children with learning differences. He earned his B.A. from Carleton College and his J.D. from the University of St. Thomas, School of Law. Tim McGuire has over 40 years of experience in the mental health field as a mental health care provider, manager and instructor. He has been a Peer Reviewer and Team Leader for the Council on Accreditation; an instructor for the University of St. Thomas/St. Catherine School of Social Work; and an Ethics Trainer for the Minnesota Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers. He holds a Masters Degree in Social Work from the University of Minnesota, and a Bachelors Degree in Sociology from the University of St. Thomas.
