First Step Food Bank, Inc. is pleased to announce that at the end of our Fiscal year 2015 we have distributed over 2,862,200 pounds of food products. We are also proud members of the Florida Association of Food Banks. Currently we have 44 partner agencies which operate 38 emergency food pantries, seven special need residential facilities and three soup kitchens that distribute food products and prepared meals to individuals and families needing assistance in Marion County FL. The need for charitable gifts of food has continued as shown by the USDA’s 2013 food insecurity rate of 16.8% for the Marion County. First Step Food Bank addresses this need issue by: 1) Receiving food products via: a Feeding America contractual relationship with Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida as a Partner Distributing Organization (PDO); purchases using monetary donations; and food donations from local grocers, organizations, and individuals. AND 2) Distributing received food products to its approved, partner agencies as soon as possible.
