We are equipped with the tools, resources, and supports needed to reach new heights. We help people nationwide transform their approach to money through Financial Therapy and our More Than Numbers therapeutic model. The Financial Therapy Center helps clients develop sustainable financial lifestyles through a 5 Step pr ocess. It is an evolving evidence-based clinical model that blends contemporary therapeutic procedures with basic principles of personal finance. The model incorporates a non-judgmental and respectful clinical orientation in changing what we do with money. It is not intended to provide a primer on personal finance. It seeks to jump start people whose professional and personal relationships are suffering from their financial problems. Our web-based treatment and training model can reach anyone in the United States. Thomas Smith, Kristin Richards, and Victoria Shelton provide financial therapy using web-based connections. We have adapted our approach to meet the needs of clients who the prefer the flexibility that the internet provides. For clients leading busy lifestyles and who could benefit from maximum flexibility, web-based financial therapy is an ideal option. Our approach allows clients with hectic schedules to benefit from procedures that have been optimized for their needs. Additionally, a web-based approach allows our team of skilled financial therapists to assist clients nationwide. For clients in the Tallahassee, Florida or Mississippi Delta areas, home-based and work-place-based financial therapy is possible. This approach is similar to a concierge service with therapy tailor-made! Efforts are made to either provide financial therapy or to refer clients to financial planning services that best suit their needs. Social workers are becoming more aware of the ways innovative business practices can be used effectively to provide long-lasting services to the underprivileged. Through social entrepreneurship, social workers can implement innovative and sustainable income streams in their practice The Financial Therapy Center is dedicated to providing services that enhance financial capability, personal responsibility, and sustainable living. We do this through counseling, education, and consultation. The Social Work Entrepreneurship Project (SWEP) focuses primarily on education and consultation, while still providing direct clinical services to the public. Through our SWEP fellowship, we work with clinical social work students interested in financial capability to provide them with a course of study designed to tie together research, practice, and service. It promotes licensure and clinical skill development while emphasizing the importance of funding, sustainability, and marketing. The Social Work Entrepreneurship Fellowship is offered to traditional, clinical MSW students in the spring semester of their first year. The fellowship is part of the Financial Therapy Center’s Social Work Entrepreneurship Project (see page 2). We are seeking students interested in clinical work who want to learn business skills necessary to start their own sustainable practice. The introduction of prevention-oriented financial therapy in foster care is presented. Consideration of emotional demands in financial literacy and therapy is examined and remedies provided that address them. Revisions to the five-step model of financial therapy are considered in terms of the needs of foster care client populations. A pared down prevention model provides aging out foster children with a means of successfully navigating lifestyle challenges. The need to empirically evaluate the prevention model is advised to demonstrate its value with this population.
