FIELDS COUNSELING, LLC, Superior

Prior to becoming a counselor, Greg Fields was a pastor where he often provided a guiding hand to hurting people for over 7 years. Greg holds a M.Div. from Baylor University and a M.S. in Community Counseling at Texas A&M University-Commerce. This is should be a prospective customer's number one call to action, e.g., requesting a quote or perusing your product catalog. My Counseling Philosophy My view of problems begins with a consideration of how you are dealing with the unwanted “inside stuff” - thoughts, feelings, bodily sensations, urges, and memories. I see these as central elements in the struggle people face. Distressing thoughts and feelings appear overwhelming, so we do what seems perfectly logical. We find ways to avoid, control, and escape them. This strategy seems to work, so we keep doing it. However, our experience soon reflects the findings of psychological researchers. Avoidance, control, and escape strategies actually make the problem worse. That’s right, worse! The story goes something like this. Our strategies offer relief from the inside stuff for a time but at some point it returns. This time thoughts seem even scarier, dangerous, or urgent and feelings even more painfully unbearable. Our mind tells us, “Uh oh, they’re back. You better do something before things get bad.”, so we increase efforts to get rid of them. We try even harder to ignore them, suppress them, or change them. Additionally, we work more hours, binge watch our favorite shows, shop, exercise, eat, abuse substances, and on and on it goes. Relief comes but the thoughts and feelings come back too, so we do it all again. Over time, a terrible sense of stuckness emerges. The cycle of avoidance followed by increased pain feels like an inescapable prison. Life has been narrowed down to an unending search for moments of reprieve from the struggle. This is should be a prospective customer's number one call to action, e.g., requesting a quote or perusing your product catalog.
