I’ve had the great fortune of living all over the US, and in the UK and Canada, excelling in two careers: one in corporate software development (1979-1991) and one in corporate digital marketing (1991-today). I’ve helped launch many big brands onto the Internet or taken them further into online and social marketing; my clients have included BMW, Brita, the Bill Clinton Administration, Clorox, De Beers, FedEx, Ford, GE, Intel, Johnson & Johnson, Kraft Foods, Mattel, the Mayo Clinic, RCA, Volkswagen of America, and many many more. In 1998, my team created the first corporate social network. In 1999, I convinced Ford dealers they should be selling online. I’ve named public companies, created logos, ad campaigns, radio spots, trade show booths…formed startups and JVs, configured servers, designed network topologies, written business plans (that got funded), as well as taglines, video soundtracks and technical manuals. I’ve also staffed, managed and grown ad agency teams in Washington DC, Los Angeles, Cincinnati and Seattle. Today I provide counsel to management teams around digital marketing: go-to-market planning, competitive audits and approaches, resource planning, process engineering, executive & employee training, and strategic planning. on everything from trust to social business to online consumer behavior to brand strategy. For the past 30 years, I’ve guest-lectured at schools like UC Berkeley, Pepperdine, the University of British Columbia, Cal State Fullerton, Dublin City University, and a few more.
