An example of Skinner's views can be provided with a single word like "candy". From a structural approach, the word "candy" is just a word and can have no real meaning. The meaning is given to the word based upon when, why, and how we say it. If you look at the word from a functional view, "candy" has several meanings. When a person says "candy" it can mean that they want a piece of candy. This is what Skinner referred to as a mand and is one possible function or "meaning" of the word "candy." As Managing Partner, she has created and co-presents a series of workshops designed to train professionals in how to teach Verbal Behavior as well as providing supervision for the associates of EO Inc. Mrs. Kibbe is a board certified behavior analyst and holds a Masters of Science degree in Applied Behavior Analysis from Florida Institute ofTechnology in Melbourne, Florida. She has been working with children with autism and other developmental and behavioral disorders for ten years. She has experience working as a behavior analyst for both children with autism and typically developing children with severe behavioral disorders and as a pre-school teacher for children with autism. Mrs. Kibbe began studying and working privately applying the principals of behavior analysis to teach Skinner’s Analysis of Verbal Behavior in 1998. Mrs. Kibbe is based out of Atlanta, GA and currently provides in-home and center based consultation services for children with language delays, as well as a series of training workshops for professionals and parents all over the US, Canada, Bermuda, Ireland, England and Wales. This DVD is like having a personalized hands-on workshop, providing definitions and concrete examples of the ins and outs of the natural environment portion of a verbal behavior program. Teaching Manding Using Sign Language explains how to teach your child to request items beginning with many prompts and then how to fade your prompts systematically so that your child can learn to ask for things independently and spontaneously using sign. This DVD is specifically created to help parents and professionals teach non-vocal children how to use sign language to ask for things that they want. Creators and behavior analysts Holly Kibbe and Cherish Twigg explicitly define each type of mand and clearly demonstrate how to teach them. In addition, video examples of actual children learning each type of mand are shown. You will learn what is and what is not natural environment teaching as well as how to teach the mands in the natural environment. It also provides important guidelines to teaching the mand, prompt fading strategies, strategies for problem solving and how to make manding easy and fun for your child. This DVD is over one hour in duration. We all know how important consistency in prompting and fading are when teaching the mand, and this resource enables that consistency to be achieved. It was a fabulous idea, exceptionally executed. Our team review the DVDs regularly and are provided with their own set to watch when they join us and then at leisure! I just wanted to write to you and tell you how wonderful your training DVD's are. I am in the process of setting up an in home ABA/VB program for my son, and I have used your DVD's as a training tool for the team of people I hired. They, as well as myself, absolutely love them. They are full of information that has helped train our 'team'. Hope to see more training modules in the future. Great work you do!
