The Electric Cart Company Experience The Electric Cart Company is a father / son owned and operated business that was established in December 2008. Having moved to Walton County 30 years ago to “slow down”, Tom Waldrop became not only a witness to, but a participant in the area’s growth and changing needs. From early business ventures in marina management and powerboat rentals in Destin and Sandestin in the mid-80’s to almost 25 years of custom homebuilding in Sandestin beginning in 1990 and later the 30A corridor, Tom has been a part of change in our local community. His son, Jon Waldrop, literally grew up in this ever-changing vacation and retirement destination. After Jon graduated from the University of Florida in 2002, he came back to the Beach and got involved in the building materials business. Since 2010, Jon has been a resident of Sandestin along with his wife, Misty, and their two children; Macey and Jackson. In 2008, Jon observed more and more golf carts beginning to be used as people transportation in developing neighborhoods, especially Sandestin. He tested the market. He bought a few and sold a few…quickly. Jon shared this experience with his Dad and, after a little research, a new business was born: Electric Cart Company, LLC. In eight years, this family business is recognized as offering the largest selection of “street legal” electric vehicles in the Southeast, USA. It’s no secret that residents move to our area, and especially the Beach, to enjoy a higher quality of life, relax and play in the ideal weather and enjoy the company of others that like to do the same. Electric Cart Company was fortunate to not only discover, but then to develop a niche that allows our residents to enjoy all of these attributes even more. From basic entry- level models to the more expensive and stylish to the rugged off-road vehicles, Electric Cart Company has a cart to suit our customer’s individual and unique needs. “Selection” is paramount, since Jon and Tom do not believe that “one-car-fits-all” is a viable business model. This year they have added another new brand they even helped to design, the Cruzer by USEV. This electric “street legal” vehicle is long on capacity with even a nine-passenger model available, not to mention an optional Li-Ion battery management system.
