Edutainment Industries, LLC started a class project at Rollins College in Winter Park, FL. Our mission was to create a product or service that would disrupt education. That was quite an ambitious task, but not impossible. Massive Open Online Courses (think EdX, CodeAcademy, etc…) have already started to make college level information freely available to the public. We decided to figure out what needs are being under served and everything kept pointing to financial literacy. But we’re just getting started…what if we can do the same thing for other complex problems? We believe that we can use real-world data to create games and simulations that would help users make better informed decisions. Thus Edutainment Industries, LLC was born… Mission: We provide parents the tools to prepare their children to make better decisions. Daniel Arthur is a co-founder and partner of Edutainment Industries, LLC with overall responsibility to shareholders, investors and customers, as well as responsibility for raising funds and customer awareness. He is a former Marine sergeant with a background in intelligence. Mr. Arthur worked as a senior consultant to the Department of Defense for eight years after his military service. He helped author the United States Army Cyber / Electromagnetic Activities Study, which set the standard for U.S. military operations in cyberspace. Mr. Arthur holds a Bachelor of Arts in Intelligence Studies from American Military University (2013) and an Executive MBA with honors from Rollins College (2015) where he was inducted into the Beta Gamma Sigma Honor Society. Angela Pollett is a co-founder and partner of Edutainment Industries, LLC with overall responsibilities for day-to-day operations and financial planning. Angela Pollett is a Director in IT Business Relationship Management for Wyndham Vacation Ownership. She holds an MBA from Rollins College; is a Six Sigma Green Belt and a member of WITI: Women in Technology International. She began her career with Fairfield Communities in 1994 and remained with the company through its acquisition by Cendant and its transition to Wyndham. She has spanned a variety of leadership roles within Resort Operations & Development, Acquisitions, and now supports the company’s Hospitality division within IT. Her expertise is derived from her experience in opening and managing 8 resorts, transitioning 4 depressed locations, and participating in multiple resort acquisitions over 20 years. As the Six Sigma lead, she also led the Florida / Caribbean Region in preventive maintenance and inventory controls for the company as well as led an IT project team to 2012 ARDA award for technology improvements in the resort opening process. Ashish Smart is a co-founder and partner of Edutainment Industries, LLC with overall responsibility for product development and distribution. He is also the Enterprise Architect for Orlando Utilities Commission and owner of two independent pharmacies in Orlando. His 25 years of experience in electrical engineering, programming, systems integration, web development and information technology provides a diverse background for using systematic steps to create robust products using the appropriate methodologies. Mr. Smart earned a Bachelor of Science Electrical Engineering from University of Florida (1990) and an Executive MBA from Rollins College (2015). As we note from this, gamification can provide an effective approach to enhancing learning. This is on account of these inherent features: It provides the learners with a sense of achievement. It provides an engaging learner experience leading to anticipated behavior change. The Jumpstart Coalition surveys showed that the most financially literate youngsters are mostly white, male, and come from well-educated families. A separate study by the NLSY showed that financially literate young adults have parents with ample retirement savings, often invested in stocks. The data suggests that financial literacy is concentrated in the middle and upper classes, but everyone is faced with the same financial decisions.
