EDUCATORS PARK Educators Park began with an altruistic vision. However, in today’s hyper competitive business environment, we have morphed into a management consulting firm focused on delivering incremental value to every stakeholder. Our mission is to relentlessly create value to make the total outcome greater than sum of all the parts. As with most other organizations, we can trace the evolution of Educators Park and its culture to its founder, Dr. Pankaj Maskara. He was born in a rather disadvantaged environment. His father started working at the age of 11 years and he started at the age of 13. Though his father could not even finish his schooling due to financial constraints Pankaj was highly gifted and he excelled at studies earning two masters degrees including MS in finance from one of the topmost programs in the world by the age of 22 years. What is more remarkable is the fact that during this same time period he had worked in many companies and founded several businesses. Despite his poor financial situation or likely because of it, he was able to look for novel ways to move up and find his way from Nepal to the US without any outside support, financial or otherwise. Constrained by lack of financial resources he often leveraged the one form of capital he had abundant of, the intellectual capital. He would tutor students 3 or 4 grades higher than his. He learned computers when it was a new thing and then opened computer institute. He worked as an accountant not having taken a single accounting class till then, taught at local schools, among others. One thing he always had going for him was that he was born in a community of merchants. Therefore, he was always surrounded by people who took risks and thought in terms of returns. They did not think of looking for jobs but ways to create jobs. It is this background that helps explain what we do at Educators Park. Dr. Maskara thinks that he has been able to move himself and his family out of poverty because of the education he received. He therefore values education very highly. However along with that he credits his success to the entrepreneurial mindset he developed growing up among businesspeople. Despite his success he has not forgotten his roots. That is why he thinks that it his duty to propagate the cycle and help others. After finishing his graduate education and having been part of startups during the dot com era he went back to India, fully funded, and ran a K thru 10 school as a social project that continues to provide education to students in rural India even today. Later he transitioned to teaching college students and helped several of his students and acquaintances start businesses and realize their dreams. He has been working as a professor of finance for more than a decade now but during this time he realized that his passion for teaching did not just extend to helping his students learn the subject of finance but to help his students either get employed in the profession or to start their own ventures. In January of 2017 he set up a formal entity to define his activities that he had already been undertaking for all these years.
