DR. JO, INC., FERNADINA BEACH

My goal is simple – to help busy people stay healthy, sane, and productive. This is critical because too many people focus on success in their career — at the expense of their health, well-being, and happiness. I inspire the people in my audience to realize that both success and health are possible, without adding more things to their already long to-do list. I believe having optimal energy is at the center of everything we strive for. Too many people make goals of increasing sales, making more money, improving relationships, losing weight – and then fall short because they just don’t have the physical, emotional, and mental energy to succeed. Without optimal energy, everything is so much more difficult – work, hobbies, relationships, goals…life! “If Jo can jump that high in heels, she must be a natural high-energy person.” Nope! Go ahead and read how I got involved in the health field (below). I didn’t get into this field to help others…it was to save myself. And, now I want to help you help yourself. Yes, I really do practice what I preach. But, I eat chocolate every single day – because staying healthy, sane, and productive is NOT about being perfect. And, it’s not about deprivation. Going from Knowing It…to Doing It One involves dropping perfection as a goal. Because once you have even a tiny slip, it leads to blame, shame, and guilt. I encourage people to stop making excuses, set themselves up for success, and start now. With something small. I’ve presented more than 1000 programs to a wide variety of groups – associations, corporations, and governmental agencies. I was also a consultant with Johnson & Johnson Human Performance Institute for seven years – working with C-suite executives to help them better manage their health and energy. To each program I bring my education in nutrition, health, and adult education as well as my extensive background in corporate wellness, university teaching, and clinical health. Participants often comment that I’m “energetic, funny, entertaining”…and that my solutions are “realistic, practical, simple.” I’ve written six books designed to keep busy people healthy, sane, & productive. I’m always keeping up with the science of nutrition and health. In writing my latest book, the busy professionals in her audiences to stay healthy, sane, and productive so they can feel more alive and experience more life balance and less stress. As a proven, corporate health and wellness speaker, Dr. Jo® is recognized for her energy and audience participation. Jo has presented over 1000 keynotes and other programs to a wide variety of companies, conferences, and groups. She offers plenty of real-life, practical advice that even the busiest of people can incorporate into their lives. worked with C-suite executives who experienced so much success in their business – at the detriment of their personal life and health. Like most other successful people, they’ve tried all the traditional productivity hacks like working harder, faster, and longer. But that only goes so far – until they feel drained and unmotivated, and burned out. helps busy people expand their energy levels through just a few small changes in the way they eat, think, move and sleep. By having more energy, people report being more productive at work and have more happiness at home. REBOOT – how to power up your energy, focus, and productivity Dr. Jo® is a registered dietitian with more than 20 years of experience as a college professor, nutrition counselor and consultant. Dr. Jo®, a registered dietitian nutritionist, has more than 20 years experience as a college professor, nutrition counselor and consultant. Jo earned her Bachelors (SUNY) and Master’s degrees (Virginia Tech) in nutrition and began her career as a clinical dietitian. At the age of 26 she became the founding director of the Dietetics Program at the University of Texas/Pan American where she developed a Bachelor of Science Degree in Dietetics Program and earned full national accreditation. Dr. Jo® Lichten earned her PhD in adult education from Texas A&M University researching the difficult issue of how to help people make healthy changes in all aspects of their lives. If you had told me decades earlier that I would be an in-demand corporate health and wellness speaker – traveling all over the US and abroad to inspire busy professionals to be healthy, sane, and productive, I would have laughed! In fact, I didn’t get my first two degrees in nutrition to help others. I literally became a dietitian to save myself! Reading teen magazines led to my first “diet” and an unneeded 40-pound weight loss over one summer – and anorexia. When I went to college it turned into bulimia and binge eating. And then my weight fluctuated wildly out-of-control within a 65-pound range as I went on one diet after another and followed extreme exercise programs. I followed Atkins and the grapefruit diet. Afterwards, I gave up sugar completely (for a long as I could). And, then went vegetarian. I fasted for days at a time each and every month. In fact, I was on the liquid protein diet when I heard on the radio, “Sixteen people have died on the liquid protein diet.” And, sadly, I still wanted to continue. I finally flushed the product down the toilet, but it took a lot of convincing. There was an over-the-counter weight loss supplement – chocolate and caramel chews called Ayds – that were supposed to cut back your appetite. I ate the whole bag and it did nothing to my appetite – that’s because my eating wasn’t caused by my appetite. As you probably know, eating disorders and food addictions are in your head, not your belly. Breaking free of this destructive lifestyle took more than a dozen years, but I did finally recover – but not until years after I became a registered dietitian nutritionist. And, those crazy diets and fluctuating weight left me, to this day, with permanent side-effects – always feeling cold (that’s why I moved to Florida) and extreme fatigue (which fuels my lifestyle and my passion about helping others power up their energy).
