All therapy sessions are completely confidential. Unless Dr. Birey has your written request giving us permission to release information, the agency cannot release records for any of the clients. Please note that Dr. Birey can not disclose any information to anyone else, including saying whether or not you are a client with this counseling agency. Under the HIPAA Law, information about your care and therapy record is strictly confidential. It cannot be released. Birey Counseling’s clients have a right to privacy and this policy is applied regardless of whether the information is requested by family members, friends, insurance companies, attorneys, or other health care providers.  The law requires counselors to break confidentiality in order to provide you with help if you are a danger to yourself or another person, and to report abuse of a child, disabled or elderly person. However, Dr. Birey only shares enough information to get aid, and never client’s personal conversations with his/her therapist. Feeling validated is an important part of a person’s emotional growth and well-being. The experience of being acknowledged unconditionally by important others allows a sense of security where one becomes able to self-explore freely. Dr. Birey's mission is to provide this safe and validating environment where individuals can self-enhance. Listening, endorsing authenticity, respecting, and offering unconditional acceptance for clients are the corner stones of her practice. It is also Dr. Birey’s promise to provide effective and affordable counseling based on each person’s needs and availability. The therapy sessions are kept confidential.
