Send me Dock Street Communities news With more than 25 years of residential development and building experience in the Carolinas and Florida, Sam Burns brought a broad range of skills to the table when he established Dock Street Communities in 2005. After graduating from Michigan State University with a BS in Urban Planning and the University of North Carolina with a Master of Regional Planning, Burns embarked upon a career that has included city planning, resort development and a 10-year stint as Regional President of a home building company with operations in Raleigh, Greensboro, Winston Salem and Charlotte. His interest in Traditional Neighborhood Design led him to head up Inland Homes, a pioneer of TND townhomes and live/work townhomes in Charlotte, and later to found Meeting Street Homes with operations in both Charlotte and Charleston. A few of the TNDs Mr. Burns helped develop include Vermillion and Rosedale in Huntersville, NC and Eastfield Village in Charlotte. In March 2005, Mr. Burns moved to coastal South Carolina to form Dock Street Communities, in conjunction with a local partner David Stradinger of Winchester Development. Shortly afterward, David Wilkes of Myrtle Beach, who shared a keen interest in TNDs, and had acquired extensive experience in local real estate and marketing, joined Dock Street Communities as consultant and Vice President of Operations. In 1981, he founded Winchester Land and Development Corporation, and spearheaded development of the infrastructure that has allowed the area to become the destination that it is today. His firm became the leader in planning condominium projects that are the heart of today’s Grand Strand. Since then, he has been dedicated to developing more than 2000 premier high rise and resort oceanfront condominiums and hotels, including North Beach Towers, Patricia Grand, The Savoy, Carolina Winds, South Wind, the Palms, Sea Watch Plantation and The Island Vista. Stradinger’s partnership with Samuel Burns brings exceptional insight and depth of coastal real estate knowledge to the Dock Street Communities team. A part of Dock Street Communities since its inception in 2005, David Wilkes brings to DSC an extensive background in commercial banking as an asset portfolio manager. David’s prior experience includes resort development with Winchester Land and Development in Myrtle Beach. As Project Manager, he supervised the completion of four high-rise oceanfront projects. Duke began his real estate career in 2003. He started his career with one of the largest national home builders, “Centex Homes”. After joining Centex Homes in 2003, he went on to win several local and National Sales Awards: 2004 and 2005 Traditional Sales Person of the Year, and the National Recognition of 100% Award, for hitting all of his monthly goals for 2 straight years. Duke left Centex Homes in 2007 and started working for one of the largest waterfront land developers, Waterfront Communities Inc. Waterfront Communities built and designed gated neighborhoods selling pre-construction homesites across the Southeast. Duke went on to win Sales Person of the year in 2007. Duke left Waterfront Communities and began working for Dock Street Communities Inc. in 2008. He is now the Broker In Charge of Dock Street Communities of The Market Common.
