Ellen’s father, George, was born in Derfle, a tiny village in the Czech Republic. The villagers were affectionately referred to as “Derflans”—a term that followed George all the way to the U.S. and became his lifelong nickname. Ellen and Shanaz decided to carry on the name as a testament to the vision, courage and hard work of their parents—all immigrants to the U.S.—who paved the way for them to build this company.
