This program provides much needed to support to children when a parent or family member is diagnosed with cancer. Sometimes children are "forgotten" during this very stressful and emotional time, but actually need the most help in understanding what is happening. They often feel alone and scared as not many other children are experiencing the same problems. This vital support begins at diagnosis of the parent/family member and continues during treatment, recovery, and even in the unfortunate circumstance of death of a parent or family member. These funds are being used to endow a Cure on Wheels named scholarship for an outstanding US citizen studying in the field of molecular oncology. These funds are being used to endow a Cure on Wheels named scholarship for an outstanding US citizen studying in the field of molecular oncology. This program encompasses the care of patients who are between 15 to 40 years of age at the time of diagnosis. This population comprises patients who have a wide range of diagnoses, some of which are more common in older adults and some of which are more common in pediatric patients. Many of these patients over the past decades have fallen into a gap in care between the pediatric and the adult cancer specialists. There are significant and unique psychosocial needs that the adolescent and young adult cancer patients experience. Moffitt's team of experts support AYA patients throughout the treatment process and helps them to navigate this course to a fulfilling, productive life during the treatment of and after cancer. These funds were directed to provide patient services and co-pay assistance to qualified patients and their families locally in the Tampa Bay area. This donation provided specialized stationary bicycles for the children to use during extended stays for cancer treatment. These cycles not only provide fun for the children, but help keep them physically `active during treatment which helps in overall response to treatment and a better long term prognosis. In addition, our donation was used to purchase special Wii Fit game consoles for the children to use during their treatment allowing kids to do what they love during long hospital visits.
