Together, we’re Cultivar Designs. Our mission is to help passionate, creative go-getters handle their website + tech needs so they can focus on doing what they love and serving up their content, courses and skills to their awesome community. As a team we bring together a special set of skills and a curated, streamlined process to craft websites that not only look beautiful, but serve you, your business, your followers and your I love web design and development and I have been working with WordPress since it’s early conception. I’ve worked in many startups under different positions, from graphic designer to web developer, to gain skills in many different environments before starting Cultivar Designs. I’ve experienced the ups and downs, trials and tribulations, of the startup world and I have gather useful strategies and procedures to help others gain success with their projects. Chris has always have had a passion for entrepreneurship and is not shy of working hard. He’s been through many business ventures and startups and has learned both from hard-knocks and from the success and failures of others first hand. Following a tour in Afghanistan with the Air Force and time in the Air Force reserves, he switched gears back to his love of design. He branded a successful South Florida Cuban coffee company and then moved west to spend some time in Cali surfing and working for various development and social media + marketing firms. That’s when he became focused on WordPress and an early adopter of responsive design (responsive design = that magic that makes your site transition seamlessly from full screen to any mobile device or tablet). Through helping Shayna learn the tools and the methods he used to build websites for his past ventures, and learning from her skills in project management and business, he was able to deepen his understanding of the fundamentals while expanding into new creative areas. Shayna’s first experience with computers was watching (and sometimes helping) her dad build custom PC’s and networking solutions for local businesses in the 80’s and 90’s. She would watch in fascination as he patiently answered client questions, helped them trouble shoot issues (if your computer won’t turn on, make sure it’s plugged in!) and designed custom solutions for his clients to make technology work for their business. After initially pursuing a career in music she earned her degree in English and Creative Writing with a minor in Business. A few years later she opened an organic boutique called Butterfly Effect and garnered a loyal following in Sarasota and found herself back in the throes of technology. On a shoestring budget she built her own e-commerce site and blog for Butterfly Effect, learned about list building and email service providers, managed an active social media presence, and took a deep dive into content strategy and copywriting. At the same time, she was also writing as the beauty editor for digital magazine startup, ModernHippieMag.com, and her experience provided an framework of understanding of the hows and whys of tools like editorial schedules and batch editing. Fast forward a few more years, Shayna met Chris while working with an organic produce buying club. Their skills (and love of organic veggies) seemed a match made in heaven, and shortly thereafter Cultivar Designs was born.
