No matter what the therapy, you will only be able to change your behavior if you are willing to look at it honestly, and consider doing things differently. This might seem like stating the obvious, but many people with either mental health or issues have deep denials about themselves, their or addictions. This could make it difficult for the counseling to be effective. When you enter into counseling, understand that there is no magic wand that will make your problem just go away. Counseling is a collaborative effort between you and your counselor.  It can be difficult to have professionals advise you what to do, but in for the counseling to be effective, you will have to be willing to follow their advice. For this reason, it is important that you the treatment philosophy and respect the professional you are working with.
