COX ENTERPRISES, LLC, PALM COAST

The story of Cox Enterprises is one of hard work, respect for employees, entrepreneurship and making bold decisions. It’s also about staying true to values that have endured for more than a century. Cox Enterprises was founded in 1898 by James M. Cox. At the age of 28, he purchased the Dayton Evening News (now the Dayton Daily News). He later served as Ohio’s governor and was the 1920 Democratic nominee for president with Franklin D. Roosevelt as his vice presidential running mate. After Governor Cox lost the election, he decided to focus on expanding his business across industries and locations. Today, Cox Enterprises is a global company with more than 55,000 employees and $20 billion in revenue. Cox remains a values-driven private corporation that can invest in long-term growth and is proud of its four-generation family leadership. Through our major divisions—Cox Communications, Cox Automotive and Cox Media Group —we lead in the communications, automotive and media industries. Our widely recognized national brands include Autotrader and Kelley Blue Book.  As our company grows, we continue to foster a culture that puts people first and upholds fundamental values such as honesty, integrity and accountability. Our values and We are committed to having a diverse workforce that reflects the communities we serve New technology & business opportunities We invest in new business opportunities  We build strong relationships with customers to meet and exceed their needs with high-quality products and services. We believe it’s good business to be good citizens of the communities we serve We are committed to helping shape a better world  through both responsible company and individual actions. Our company values On Feb. 9, 1935, Gov. James M. Cox, the founder of our company, took to the airwaves for the first radio broadcast of WHIO in Dayton, Ohio. On that special day, he expressed hope that this new technology would be a force for good in the world. Never once did he mention making money, profits or financial targets. “May I express this christening sentiment, that this voice will always be an instrument of dignity, culture and practical service. That it will carry the light of joy to places that are dark, that it will build a love for goodness and beauty, that it will plant in the hearts of man a philosophy that will help them to see divinity in sunshine and shadow.” Over the past few months, the senior leadership team and I have been thinking a great deal about what makes Cox such a unique company — one that’s been around for 120 years. We began discussing why the company exists and why we all come to work every day. Earning a living is only part of the answer. To dig deeper on this question of WHY, we brought in speaker and writer Simon Sinek, author of the book “Start with Why.” We invited a diverse mix of employees from across the whole company to join in on our brainstorming and to share their stories about what makes Cox special. These simple, powerful words capture the spirit of Cox today. They define WHY we treat our employees with dignity and respect. WHY we continue to invest and innovate in our businesses. WHY we care about conservation and our communities. Our company’s purpose is rooted in our past, but it inspires us to shape our tomorrow and to reach a little higher. This is what gets me up in the morning. Together we can help “carry the light of joy to places that are dark” and act as a powerful force for good in this world — now and in the future. And to me, that’s something worth working toward. Cox Enterprises We’re here because those who came before us were dedicated to building a better future, and we’re committed to doing the same for the next generation. Our HOWs are our guiding principles. They provide direction for each of us so we can be at our best and bring our WHY to life. Our WHATs are the products we sell and the services we offer. Our WHATs change over time, but our WHY and HOWs remain consistent. Cox Enterprises is a leading communications, media and automotive services company. Our major operating subsidiaries are Cox Communications, Cox Automotive and Cox Media Group; and our national consumer brands include Autotrader, Kelley Blue Book and Manheim. Headquartered in Atlanta, Ga., our businesses operate throughout the U.S. and across the globe. With more than 55,000 employees and $20 billion in revenue, we believe that taking bold action and staying true to our values enable us to create a thriving business. Cox Communications is the largest private telecommunications company in the U.S., as well as the nation’s third-largest cable television company. We connect 6 million residential and business customers to the things they care about most via advanced digital video, internet, phone, and home security and automation services.
