Clearwater For Youth, Inc. is a Florida-based non-profit organization established in 1972 with the mission of ensuring 'no child is turned away' due to financial barriers and elevating youth sports locally and beyond through scholarships and grants. The organization provides support to constructive sports programs that encourage unity and learning among children from diverse backgrounds, upholding its philosophy of 'building character through sports.' Established initially as a football and cheerleading program by the P.A.L in 1966, Clearwater For Youth expanded under the guidance of local civic leaders and Suncoast Kiwanis until becoming incorporated as a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. Over five decades, CFY has focused on establishing recreational centers like the Harris E. "Zip" Long Center, opened in 1990, to foster sports participation among over 8,000 youth annually in Clearwater. The organization partners with various entities including the City of Clearwater and prominent sports teams to reduce financial burdens associated with youth sports by providing scholarships, equipment grants, travel funds, and more. Additionally, CFY supports collegiate aspirations through scholarships, having awarded over $500,000 since 2006. The mission continues to be supported by community events and philanthropic contributions such as the noteworthy Richard O. Jacobson Endowment. This endowment ensures that fundraising efforts directly impact youth sports programs, thereby honoring Mr. Dick Jacobson's legacy of supporting young athletes. Under the leadership of officers like Chairman Fred Miller and Treasurer Craig Gilman, CFY remains steadfast in its commitment to fostering a supportive environment where youth can thrive through athletics.
