Chestnut Hill Benevolent Association was founded in 1916 by The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts, in response to Mary Baker Eddy’s call for a facility that would provide Christian Science nursing care and training for Christian Science nurses. In 1981 The Mother Church transferred ownership of Christian Science Benevolent Association from an Affiliated Trusteeship of The Mother Church to autonomous control under an independent Board of Trustees, and changed its name to Chestnut Hill Benevolent Association. The Board of Trustees is comprised of Christian Scientists responsible for oversight, direction, and governance of Chestnut Hill Benevolent Association. Janiva has served as Executive Director for several Christian Science nursing facilities: Lynn House of Potomac Valley, Inc. in Virginia, The Leaves, Inc. in Texas and since 2003, Chestnut Hill Benevolent Association in Massachusetts. Janiva has served in a number of positions in the Association of Christian Science Nursing Organizations/Facilities, Inc. and has conducted Christian Science nursing facility inspections for The Commission for Accreditation of Christian Science Nursing Organizations/Facilities, Inc. as well as for The Mother Church (prior to The Commission). She has extensive experience working with Medicare and insurance with Christian Science benefits. Janiva is a Trustee for the Christian Science Nursing Arts Trust. for a list of Christian Science nursing facilities recognized by The Commission. Chestnut Hill Benevolent Association is certified and inspected by . The BA is a Medicare provider and designated as a RNHCI (religious non-medical healthcare institution).
